"Non, depuis bien des années, la Russie n'est plus un pays fermé. Cependant, comme dans ce moment elle se transforme et se régénère, il faut à celui qui veut la connaître des livres nouveaux et qui soient à jour de la situation actuelle ; les vieux livres sur ce pays n'ont plus qu'un intérêt historique. D'ailleurs une étude quelconque n'est jamais close, et au commencement d'une ère nouvelle il importe encore de résumer avec exactitude le passé, afin de bien faire comprendre l'état présent et futur."‎

‎Livre devenu rare et quasi introuvable. Plats usés, coins et chasses quelque peu émoussés, légère usure au dos, à noter une craquelure importante à la charnière arrière. Pour autant, le dos est élégant avec un doré exceptionnellement brillant pour l'âge et l'intérieur lui aussi exceptionnellement frais. Une pièce importante pour qui veut connaître l'histoire de la Russie, racontée par une source d'époque majeure.‎

Timothy Johnston draws on newspapers, films, plays, and popular music in order to examine the changing nature of Soviet identity in this era. He pays particular attention to the evolution of Britain and America from wartime allies to Cold War enemies. Being Soviet then explores how ordinary citizens related to this official version of Soviet identity. It examines that question via the rumours, jazz music, hairstyles, jokes, anti-war campaigns, and sexual relationships of the time. Johnston argues that these 'everyday' activities defined Soviet identity for the man on the street in the USSR. At the heart of the book is a sustained critique of the current emphasis on 'supporters' or 'resistors' of the regime. Johnston suggests that the shadow of Foucault looms too large in the history of Stalinism. The relationship between Soviet citizens and Soviet power was defined by the subtle tactics of everyday living. For many, life was not defined by 'belief' or 'unbelief' but rather the constant struggle to stay fed, informed, and entertained. This more nuanced approach offers a rich and textured image of what it meant to be Soviet in Stalin's least years.‎

D'autres éditions furent publiées par Louis Boissevin en 1653, Nicolas Picart en 1659, et de nouveau par Gérard Jollain en 1659. Les cartes du Trésor des cartes géographiques sont dérivées des cartes de l'Atlas minor de Mercator et Hondius, publié en 1628. Très bon exemplaire. Mouillure claire dans la marge haute. Né à Payerne le 6 mars 1779 Jomini s'engagea en 1798 dans l'armée helvétique, s'y distingua si rapidement qu'après avoir été adjudant du ministre de la guerre, il fut nommé en 1799 chef de bataillon. Après une longue carrière militaire (e.a. au service de Russie) il se retira, après la guerre de Crimée, à Paris ou il mourut le 22 mars 1869.Most of the maps & plans are partly colored. The difference between this edition and the one of 1840 is that the separatly printed overlays are here integrated on the maps, complete copy with some staines.
