Als Österreich-ungarischer Offizier wurde Faludi Zeuge der russischen Revolution, hörte Trotzki, landete in einem Irrenhaus und flüchtete nach München, wo er als Schauspieler sein Brot verdiente. Dann kam er nach Berlin, schrieb für "Die Weltbühne", lernte Tucholsky, Roth und Radek kennen und erhielt Kontakt zu Majakowski und Gorki. Von Deutschland flüchtete er nach Paris und Stockholm. Sein ungarischer Paß wurde nicht erneuert, und von diesem Zeitpunkt an wanderte er mit einem "Fremdenpaß" durch Deutschland, Holland, Österreich und Skandinavien. Schließlich erhielt er die offizielle Einreiseerlaubnis nach Rußland. Kurze Zeit darauf steht er vor der Flucht durch die karelischen Wälder. Die Flucht gelingt. Ende der dreißiger Jahre läßt sich Faludi endgültig in Schweden nieder. Im Rahmen dieser teils dramatischen, teils von schweijkscher Komik erfüllten Odyssee bringt das Buch zahlreiche Porträts bekannter Persönlichkeiten wie anonymer Mitmenschen, denen Faludi auf den einzelnen Stationen seines bewegten Lebens begegnet ist. Es wurde dadurch zu einem Zeitdokument, das einen ungewöhnlich lebendigen Eindruck von einem Mann vermittelt, der trotz aller erlittenen Schicksalsschläge den Glauben seiner Jugend nie verlor. Da Faludi überdies die bedeutenden wie die unbedeutenden Begegnungen und Abenteuer in den großen Zeitablauf der Geschichte einzuordnen und ebenso anschaulich wie amüsant zu erzählen weiß, ist das Buch ein Schlüssel zu Ereignissen, die in der Erinnerung der Älteren fast verblaßt sind. Zugleich ist es ein Schlüssel zu einer Zeit, über die auch die Jüngeren immer mehr erfahren wollen, um zu verstehen, wie die geistige Umwelt, in der sie heute leben, entstanden ist. (Verlagstext)‎

Der Yunion Arbayter (The Union Worker) lasted 2 volumes, running weekly until 1927. The first volume, complete, is here. “A.L.G.V.Y / I.L.G.V.Y.” stands for the Yiddish name for the heavily Yiddish speaking International Ladies Garment Workers Union; this newspaper was published by an Anarchist section within the union. “Yiddish-speaking Jewish anarchists were one of the pillars of the U.S. anarchist movement before World War II. This largely immigrant radical milieu was centered in New York City and opposed capitalism, the state, and organized religion. Yiddish-speaking anarchists built militant unions, anarchist newspapers, and other organizations to further their cause. Many famous anarchists were linked to this movement, including Johann Most, Emma Goldman, Alexander Berkman, and Rudolf Rocker. Yiddish-speaking anarchists played a pivotal role in unions like the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU), while the Yiddish anarchist newspaper the Fraye Arbeter Shtime (The Free Voice of Labor) was the largest and longest-lasting U.S. anarchist publication and formed a significant part of the Yiddish cultural landscape. In the 1930s a second generation of bilingual Jewish anarchists emerged, including Sam and Esther Dolgoff, and Audrey Goodfriend, whose influence is still felt in today’s anarchist movement.Despite the importance of Yiddish anarchism to the histories of both the U.S. Left and the Jewish community, it has been largely forgotten and written out of historical scholarship” (YIVO).
