In 8° (16,5×10 cm); (16), 407, (3) pp. Legatura ottocentesca in mezza-pelle con piatti foderati da bella carta marmorizzata. Dorso a 5 nervi. Titolo in oro ad un tassello. Qualche strofinatura e lieve difetto alla legatura. Una piccolissima mancanza dell’angolo basso di carta 6, ininfluente e lontano dal testo e per il resto all’interno in ottime condizioni di conservazione. Marca tipografica di Ciotti al frontespizio. Assai rara edizione, un solo esemplare censito in ICCU, di questa sesta edizione, notevolmente accresciuta rispetto alla precedente, che raccoglie le lettere del celeberrimo drammaturgo, scrittore e poeta ferrarese, Battista Guarini (Ferrara, 10 dicembre 1538 – Venezia, 7 ottobre 1612). Professore di eloquenza a Ferrara, nel 1657 passò al diretto servizio di Alfonso II d’Este divenendo, insieme a Torquato Tasso, poeta di corte. Fu diplomatico in Polonia per i problemi di successione del trono polacco al quale, anche Alfonso II d’Este ambiva. Durante il secondo viaggi diplomatico in Polonia rischiò prima di annegare nel Danubio e poi di esser rapito dai cosacchi. Nel 1583 iniziò a lavorare al Pastor Fido durante un soggiorno nella sua Villa del Polesine favola pastorale che lo rese famosissimo. Le sue lettere sono di estrema importanza storica oltre a rappresentare un grande esempio di ars epistolica. Fra i corrispondenti: il Duca di Mantova, Alessandro Farnese, la Duchessa d’Urbino, Speron Speroni, Cornelio Bentivoglio, il Duca di Savoia, il Gran Duca di Toscana, Ferrante Estense, il Podestà di Rovigo, Ferrante Gonzaga, Duca di Parma, il Marchese Rangoni, il celebre Mercuriale, il Principe di Mantova, il Conte della Mirandola, Giulio Rangoni, il Cardinale della Rovere, Cesare d’Este, la Contessa di Scandiano, Gio. Battista Strozzi, Lorenzo Guicciardini, Antonio Caetani, Conte Luigi Bevilacqua e molti altri. Le lettere trattano di problemi diplomatici, letterari, della situazione politica italiana ed europea e sono divise per argomento della lettera come “Avisare, Consultare, Dedicare, Discorrere, Tavola, Giustificare, Presentare, Raccomandare, Ricchiedere, Ringraziare, Condolersi, Congratularsi, Risentirsi, Scusarsi, Di Negozio, Complimento, Uffiziose, Familiari, Di Scherzo, Amorose”. Opera rara ed in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione.

Guillaume Guéroult (1507-1569) dirigeva a Lione la stamperia del cognato Balthazar Arnoullet (1517-1556), presso il quale stampò nel 1552 il "Premier livre des figure set pourtraitz des villes plus illustre set renommées d’Europe", contenente 9 immagini urbane, perlopiù copiate dalla "Cosmographia" di Sebastian Muenster. Questo esemplare proviene dall’opera che il Guéroult e Arnouellet pubblicarono l’anno seguente, nel 1553, con il titolo di "Epitome de la Corographie d’Europe, illustré de pourtraitz des villes plus renomées d’icelle". Le vedute urbane furono incrementate a 21 e aggiunte alcune carte geografiche. Le matrici furono ristampate poi da Bonhomme (1557), Dupinet (1564) e Belleforest (1575). Alfred Guesdon nasce a Nantes il 13 giugno del 1808; terminati gli studi classici parte nel 1829 alla volta di Parigi per entrare come allievo architetto nello studio di Antoine Martin Garnaud. Dal 1830 si dedicò a sperimentazioni e ricerche nel campo della litografia, prediligendo soggetti storici, vedute e panorami, tratti dai numerosi viaggi che egli fece in Europa. La peculiarità di queste vedute sta nel fatto che si tratta dei primi rilievi di città dall’alto, effettuati a bordo di una mongolfiera. Nel 1849 pubblica le tavole, in litografia, nel celebre L’Italie à vol d’oiseau, o storia e descrizione sommaria delle principali città di questo paese, di H. Etiennez, accompagnate da 40 grandi vedute generali, disegnate dal vero da Alfred Guesdon e litografate con due tinte da A. Rouargue, Jules Arnout, A. Cuvillier, A. Guesdon. Litografia tinta, lievi ossidazioni, altrimenti in perfetto stato di conservazione. Alfred Guesdon was born in Nantes, June the 13th 1808. Once he finished his classical studies, in 1829, he went to Paris, to study architecture as a pupil of Antoine Martin Garnaud. Starting from 1830, he devoted himself to experimentations and researches on the art of lithography, especially on historical subjects, views and landscapes he took from his many trips around Europe. The distinctiveness of these views is the fact that they are the first representations of the cities from above, realized on board of an air balloon. In 1849 he published the lithographic plates in the famous L’Italie à vol d’oiseau, o storia e descrizione sommaria delle principali città di questo paese di H.
