‎Rarissima veduta prospettica della città di Reims, circa 1630, firmata in basso a sinistra E. Moreau fe & excudit. Acquaforte e bulino, impressa su carta vergata coeva, con margini, in ottimo stato id conservazione.  Edmé Moreau era un incisore francese, nato nel febbraio 1596 a Châlons-en-Champagne e morto nel novembre 1648 a Reims.Nipote di Claude Chastillon, esercitò il suo mestiere a Reims dal 1617 fino alla sua morte, ma fu più attivo dal 1620 al 1648. Avrebbe anche lavorato a Parigi intorno al 1601. Le sue opere più importanti e migliori furono eseguite per la città di Reims, dove abitò in rue Saint-Étienne, poi lavorò con François Bernard al Griffon d'Or, Nicolas Hécart alla Bible d'Or e collaborò con l'incisore Nicolas Son. Durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale i suoi disegni e le matrici, che costituivano l'importante calcografia della città, furono danneggiate dall'incendio del 1917; poi restaurate e ricostituite dall'artista locale Abel Jamas. Questa terza prospettiva, in ordine cronologico sebbene priva di data, è relativa a qualche anno dopo. Aggiunse una cornice di vignette – in un panneggio decorato con frange - che rappresentano le facciate degli edifici più prestigiosi della città, tra cui la cattedrale, il municipio, la tomba di Saint Remi, il portale di Saint-Nicaise, il battesimo di Clovis e le armi della città con il motto: "Dieu en soit garde".  Questo tipo di veduta – sulla base delle mappe dei grandi editori olandesi Blaeu e Visscher -era divenuto molto di moda all’epoca. Edmé Moreau was a French engraver, born in February 1596 in Châlons-en-Champagne and died in November 1648 in Reims. A nephew of Claude Chastillon, he practiced his craft in Reims from 1617 until his death, but was most active from 1620 to 1648. He would also have worked in Paris around 1601. His most important and best works were executed for the city of Reims, where he lived in the rue Saint-Étienne, then he worked with François Bernard at the Griffon d'Or, Nicolas Hécart at the Bible d'Or and collaborated with the engraver Nicolas Son. During World War I, his drawings and matrices, which constituted the city's important chalcography, were damaged by fire in 1917; then restored and reconstituted by local artist Abel Jamas.  His works are numerous; his burin was distinguished by finesse and lightness. At the time, the art of engraving was far from perfect, but Moreau seems a precursor of the great French school. He executed his most important and best works for the city of Reims, including three perspective plans. The first, derived from a drawing by his uncle Claude Chastillon, is dated 1622 and is dedicated to the citizens of Reims. This third perspective, in chronological order although undated, relates to a few years later. He added a frame of vignettes - in a drapery decorated with bangs - representing the facades of the most prestigious buildings of the city, including the cathedral, the town hall, the tomb of Saint Remi, the portal of Saint-Nicaise, the baptism of Clovis and the arms of the city with the motto: "Dieu en soit garde".  This type of view - based on the maps of the great Dutch publishers Blaeu and Visscher - had become very fashionable at the time. Abbatia Morimundus) gelegen im heutigen Fresnoy-en-Bassigny im Département Haute-Marne in der Region Grand Est in Frankreich war eine der vier Primarabteien des Zisterzienserordens. Die Abtei wurde im Jahr 1115 von Stephan Harding (1059?1134), dem dritten Abt des Klosters Cîteaux, gegründet und war neben Kloster La Ferté im Süden, Kloster Pontigny im Westen und Kloster Clairvaux im Norden eines der nach zisterziensischer Tradition gegründeten vier Töchterklöster im Umfeld von 100 km um Citeaux. Der Filiation von Morimond werden 261 Klöster zugerechnet (ohne die Niederlassungen der Ritterorden von Calatrava, Alcantara usw.). Davon sind 29 unmittelbare Tochterklöster von Morimond. Im Bistum Langres gelegen, wurde Morimond von Odelric d'Aigremont und seiner Frau Adeline de Choiseul (etwa 1075 nach 1126 n. Chr.) gefördert. Erster Abt und eine der Säulen der Zisterzienser war neun Jahre lang der Deutsche Arnold (? 1126). Allein 44 deutsche und über 700 anderweitige Klostergründungen der Zisterzienser gingen zwischen 1123 (Kloster Kamp) und 1305 (Kloster Stolpe), von Morimond und Clairvaux aus. Unter diesen frühen Gründungen ragt das Kloster Maulbronn (1147 n. Chr.) in Baden-Württemberg heraus, als besterhaltene mittelalterliche Klosteranlage nördlich der Alpen und als Weltkulturerbe. Die dreischiffige kreuzförmige Klosterkirche mit gerade geschlossenem Chor, dessen Seiten alle mit Kapellen besetzt und durch einen Umgang verbunden sind, wurde nach der Bauvorschrift der Zisterzienser schlicht und streng, ohne Türme und künstlerischen Schmuck gestaltet. Während der Religionskriege, im Jahr 1572 und 1636 im Dreißigjährigen Krieg, wurde Morimond zerstört und 1791 aufgegeben. Nur die Kirche blieb erhalten, verfiel im 19. Jahrhundert aber zur Ruine. Ein Fragment des nördlichen Seitenschiffs der mittelalterlichen Abtei steht noch, auch das Eingangsportal des 18. Jahrhunderts findet sich neben Pavillons, Arkaden und der Bibliothek. er Name ?Morimond?, von ?mori mundo?, lässt sich übersetzen als: ?Stirb der Welt?. Dem irdischen Dasein entsagte derjenige, der am Beginn des 12. Jahrhunderts in diese Zisterzienserabtei in der Champagne eintrat. Einer der berühmten Männer aus Morimond war Otto von Freising, der Sohn des Markgrafen von Österreich Leopold III. und seiner Gattin Agnes, Tochter von Kaiser Heinrich IV. Er studierte in Paris und trat dann in das Zisterzienserkloster ein, dessen Abt er wurde. Auch Papst Benedikt XII. (Amtszeit 1334?1342), der dritte der Avignoner Päpste, begann seine Laufbahn als Mönch in Morimond. (Quelle Wikipedia) --- Das Kloster Cîteaux [si'to] (auch Cisteaux; lat. cistercium; abbatia B. M. de Cistercio; deutsch Zisterz) ist das Mutterkloster aller Zisterzienser und befindet sich in der Gemeinde Saint-Nicolas-lès-Cîteaux in der Region Burgund etwa 25 km südlich von Dijon, der Hauptstadt des Départements Côte-d?Or. Es liegt am Ufer des Flusses Vouge, einem Nebenfluss der Saône. Bedeutung hat die Abtei Cîteaux vor allem als Ursprung und Ausgangspunkt des Zisterzienserordens, der mit Tochterklostergründungen (Filiationen) in ganz Europa großen Einfluss hatte. He continued a member of the firm Merrick and Morris until the death of Merrick (1885), when he formed a partnership with George E. Hamilton, and continued actively to practice his profession, being connected with important litigation both in the local courts and in the Supreme Court. He was appointed by President Grover Cleveland an associate Justice of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit upon the establishment of that Court in 1893.
