Mercator was the greatest cartographer of the modern era and this atlas is the most important surviving ensemble of his works anywhere and the only collection ever likely to appear for sale. It consists of the only two known autograph manuscript maps by him, the only surviving copy of his Europe wall map of 1554, other rare wall maps, etc. With detailed and scholarly descriptions.

Before he formed a partnership with Claude-Marie Ferrier in 1959 Charles Soulier and his associate Athanse Clouzard produced a large number of glass stereoviews. Although this stereoview is not signed it probably is one of those early views. Provenance: from the collection of Robert N. Dennis who was one of the most important stereoview collectors in the United States. The New York Public Library's "Robert N. Dennis Collection" includes more than 70000 stereoviews from his collection many of which can be viewed on the library's website. Please note that my scanner does not do well with glass stereoviews.
