‎Unique édition de ces souvenirs des plus importants, capitaux pour comprendre l'opposition entre "Natifs" (ils d’étrangers admis à l’habitation, nés dans la ville, mais privés de droits politiques) et Bourgeois (fils de bourgeois ou de citoyens mais nés en pays étranger, ou étrangers qui avaient acquis le droit de bourgeoisie auprès du Magistrat), à la fin du XVIIIe siècle genevois, ainsi que pour la Révolution genevoise, qui s'inscrit dans l'ensemble des troubles du monde occidental entre 1772 et 1789. Isaac Cornuaud (1743-1820), natif, apprenti monteur de boîtes à 12 ans, lecteur de Voltaire et de Rousseau, se consacra entièrement à la politique à partir de 1779 : polémiste de talent, il combattit les Représentants, dont il parvint à détacher une partie des Natifs, ce qui lui valut la direction des Messageries de France (1782-1787) et la bourgeoisie en 1784. A l'appel de Jacques Mallet-du Pan, il se rendit à Paris en 1792, où il soutint par ses écrits le parti royaliste. Mais, rentré à Genève la même année, il se déclara en faveur de l'égalité politique. Après la Terreur, il prit une part active à la réconciliation du 21 septembre 1795. Favorable à l'annexion française, il fut nommé secrétaire général à la préfecture du Léman en 1800.
