The standard reference on the reclamation of the forest during the inclosures of the Hanoverian period and a considerable tribute to the Knights father and son whose vision and enterprise made it possible. Fussell wrote profusely on a wide range of agricultural and rural matters; but is probably best remembered for his standard bibliographies 'The Old English Farming Books 1523 to 1730' 1947 and 'More Old English Farming Books 1731 to 1793' 1950.
