From Preface: Italian Futurism has occupied a rather secondary role in art due to its geographic and historical isolation and its lack of formal contributions to the course of modern art. Between the Baroque period and the current Neo-Expressionist work of artists such as Sandro Chia only Futurism brought brief attention to Italian art and artists. Interestingly all three groupings Baroque Futurism and contemporary Neo-Expressionsim are largely figurative; however associations end at that point and it must be noted that in theory Italian Futurist artists rejected their own artistic heritage.
