‎Papier vom Seitenrand her lichtbedingt etwas nachgedunkelt, sonst aber gut erhalten und ohne Anstreichungen o.ä., . - Die Textilsammlung der Abteilung Amerikanische Archäologie des Museums für Völkerkunde in Berlin umfaßt ungefähr 8500 archäologische Textilien aus der Andenregion. Darunter sind 72 Gewebe, die eine technische Besonderheit aufweisen, die bisher nur aus dieser Region bekannt ist, nämlich die der unterbrochenen, umkehrenden Kettfäden. Gewebe dieser Art sind auf speziell eingerichteten Webgeräten entstanden im Gegensatz zu den Geweben, deren Kettfäden von Kettabschlußkante zu Kettabschlußkante durchgehend geführt sind. Wenige unvollständige Webgeräte sind durch Publikationen bekanntgeworden. Sie vermitteln aber nur eine ungefähre Vorstellung von dem technischen Ablauf der Herstellung. Während Kettfäden normalerweise die gesamte Länge eines Gewebes durchlaufen, wurde im vorspanischen Peru ein Verfahren angewandt, sie innerhalb eines Gewebes zu unterbrechen. Die Unterbrechung der Kettfäden erfolgte nicht aus bindungstechnischen Gründen, sondern ist eine spezielle Methode der Kettkonstruktion. Das Grundprinzip dieser sogenannten Partialgewebe (oder der Partialtechniken) besteht darin, daß nicht nur die Schußfäden (umkehren können), sondern auch die Kettfäden nur über Teilstrecken eines Gewebes verlaufen und an den Farbgrenzen umkehren. Je nach Musterung besteht die Grundkonstruktion aus mehreren verschiedenfarbigen Ketten, deren Fäden, um sie in Position zu halten, über horizontal gespannte zusätzliche Verbindungsfäden (-stöbe) hin- und zurückgeführt werden. Bei jedem Farbwechsel der auf einer horizontalen Linie liegenden Ketten, also jeweils an den Kettenden, wird ein Verbindungsfaden (-stab) benötigt. Entweder sind die Fäden übereinanderliegender Ketten über dem gemeinsamen Verbindungsfaden verhängt, oder sie kehren ohne Verhängung alternierend (z.B. im Wechsel 1/1) um. Mit dem Spannen der verschiedenfarbigen Ketten wurde die Musterung eines Gewebes bereits festgelegt. In Geweben mit verhängten Kettfäden könnten die Verbindungsfäden nach beendeter Webarbeit entfernt werden, da sie ihren Zweck erfüllt haben, doch sind sie oft noch vollständig oder teilweise im Gewebe enthalten. Für die ohne Verhängung umkehrenden Kettfäden bilden die Verbindungsfäden den einzigen Zusammenhalt. Stellvertretend können auch gewöhnliche Schußfäden eingesetzt sein. Vertikale Verbindungsfäden, die die umkehrenden Einträge fixiert hätten, wurden an den Berliner Geweben nicht festgestellt. Die Schußfäden sind an den Farbgrenzen vor dem Umkehren entweder verhängt, oder sie kehren ohne Verhängung um, so daß zwischen den vertikalen Farbgrenzen Schlitze entstehen, die offen bleiben oder später vernäht werden. Die Methode, mit unterbrochenen Kettfäden zu arbeiten, scheint nicht auf Peru beschränkt geblieben zu sein. Peruanischer Einfluß macht sich an zwei kolumbianischen Geweben (Hemden, Behänge?) der Proto-Pastos-Kultur (Piartal 750-1250 n.Chr.) bemerkbar. Beide stammen aus dem Fundort Tambillo, Municipio de Guaitarilla und sind im Museo del Oro in Bogota ausgestellt (Boletin No. 15 u. 17 1986, Umschlagrückseiten). In dem einen (No. 15) aus brauner und weißer Wolle sind nur die Kettfäden unterbrochen und verhängt, die Schußfäden sind durchgehend, bei den anderen (No. 17 drei Fragmente) aus roter, gelber und brauner Wolle sind Kett- und Schußfäden unterbrochen und verhängt.
