Catalogue de la librairie Franck sur papier jaune à la fin. Édition établie par Ferdinand Denis. Si la France antarctique de Villegagnon jouit d'une certaine notoriété, la "France équinoxiale" fondée par des capucins en 1612 au Maranhão est moins connue. On la connaît surtout par deux témoignages, celui de Claude d'Abbeville et celui-ci, d'Yves d'Evreux. Le premier livre est paru en 1614, le second a été détruit avant même sa diffusion... à l'exception d'un exemplaire, miraculeusement retrouvé et conservé à Paris. Le texte se déroule en deux traités, le premier sans nom, le second intitulé "Des fruits de l'Évangile qui tôt parurent par le baptême de plusieurs enfants". Un témoignage précieux tant sur les Indiens que sur les Capucins, la vision des uns et des autres que sur la géopolitique européenne dans ces régions alors méconnues de l'Amérique du Sud.
