Four volumes of 'The Navy List' bound in one volume for 1830 and 1831.'The Navy List' now known as 'Navy Directory' is an official list of naval officers their ranks seniority ships and more. This volume offers an expanse of information on the Royal Navy of Victorian England. Including the 'Navy List' corrected to the 20th December 1830 20th March 1831 20th June 1831 and the 20th September 1831. Rebound with endpapers renewed.With the bookplate of Captain Richard Campbell to the front pastedown. He served on submarines before becoming a specialist in hydrographic surveying a skill which took him around the world including Antarctica aboard the HMS Endurance. During the Falklands War he led the conversion of deep ocean survey vessel HMS Hydra into a hospital ship which transported wounded personnel to Uruguay. For this significant contribution he was appointed OBE. Rebound in half morocco with paper covered boards. Light rubbing to back strip otherwise externally excellent. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally firmly bound. Earliest title page significantly age toned with tape restoration to fore edge. Pages lightly age toned but clean. London 1782. Broadside 10 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches. Minor soiling. Very good plus. A song sheet commemorating Rodney's naval victory over the French fleet under the command of the Comte de Grasse off Dominica in the West Indies. The Battle of the Saintes was a naval battle that took place over four days in April 1782 in which the British defeated the French fleet whose aim was the capture of Jamaica. This nine verse six line song tells the tale of the sea gods wakened by the fight and amazed at the glorious victory of the British. ESTC locates four copies - two at the British Library one at the Bodleian and one at New York Public. Those records mention a woodcut illustration which has been neatly trimmed off the top of the sheet and is not present here. ESTC T10517. unknown books
