Two letters concerning a Marine Corps band concert written on behalf of Presidents and addressed to Caprain John H. Craige of the Navy Department:TLS. 1pg. 7 x 9 . January 31 1924. Washington DC. A typed letter signed John Randolph Bolling on behalf of former President Woodrow Wilson. The letter is written on Wilsons personal Washington DC letterhead and signed by Wilsons brother-in-law states: Mr. and Mrs. Wilson ask me to say that they will be very happy to act as patrons of the Invitation Concert to be given on March fourth by the Band of the United States Marine Corps. As the sickly Wilson died four days later this must be one of his last missives. The letter has a red crayon mark through it and two punch holes at the top.TL. 1pg. 5 x 9 . February first 1924. Trace de mouillure claire en bas de page. Les Commissaires des Classes sont des écrivains de la marine qui sont nommés par le roi qui leur délivre un brevet. Ce brevet est enregistré par le bureau du contrôle de la marine du lieu où l'écrivain a été nommé. Les tâches de l'écrivain consistent à prendre note de tout: compter les matériaux de construction les deniers les hommes et les marchandises. Ils dressent des rôles qui sont mis en forme c'est-à-dire au propre afin d'être compilés dans des registres. Ces registres permettent de faire la synthèse de l'activité d'un bureau ou d'un détail du port. Ce travail d'écriture représente une masse considérable d'efforts: à une époque où la sauvegarde informatique et les photocopies sont impossibles. Il Re Gerolamo. (Ritratto in età matura: in piedi, a mezza figura, vòlto di 3/4 verso destra, in uniforme da Contrammiraglio della Marina Imperiale, colla mano sinistra appoggiata su un tavolino, accanto a bicorno).
Incisione in acciaio (foglio: mm. 140 x 220), databile del sec. XIX. Ritrae Girolamo Bonaparte (1784-1860) fratello minore di Napoleone. Contrammiraglio nella Marina Imperiale, ebbe vita sentimentale avventurosa, con 3 matrimoni: il 1°, poi annullato, con un'americana, il 2° con Caterina di Württemberg, che gli fruttò la nomina a re di Vestfalia, il 3° con una nobildonna italiana. Dopo la caduta del fratello si stabilì prima a Vienna, poi a Trieste e Roma, ma dopo il 1848 rientrò a Parigi, e grazie al nipote Luigi (futuro Napoleone III) fu reintegrato nel titolo e negli onori di principe imperiale.

A chronicle of the short-lived Bank of the United States and its continued involvement in US Navy pensions. <br /> <br /> After the demise of the Second Bank of the United States in 1836 a result of the historical "Bank War" between US President Andrew Jackson and Bank President Nicholas Biddle Biddle attempted to resuscitate the institution as a commercial bank chartered by the State of Pennsylvania. The former bank's stock holders except the US government voted to transfer the old bank's assets and liabilities to the new bank which made it difficult to disentangle the dealings of the defunct bank with the newly state-chartered bank. This letter from Secretary of the Navy Mahlon Dickerson discusses arrangements for The Bank of the United States to fund Navy Pensions and is an example of it's continued involvement with the US Government after the Second Bank of the United States charter had expired. Reading in part: <br /> <br /> "I have received your letter of the 19th inst. and agree to the arrangement you propose that for the funds you may place at the disposal of this department for the payment of Navy Pensions credit shall be given on the Bond from the Bank of the United States chartered by the Legislature of Pennsylvania to the United States."<br /> <br /> Written at the onset of the Panic of 1837 Biddle would fail to replicate the success he experienced as President of the Second Bank of the United States and resigned as President in 1839. The Bank of the Unites States failed in 1841. Biddle faced financial ruin and was arrested for fraud but was acquitted before his death in 1844. <br /> <br /> Born in Hanover Township New Jersey Mahlon Dickerson 1770-1853 was a cavalry veteran of the Whiskey Rebellion who would go on to be elected Governor of New Jersey serve as US Senator receive two appointments as Secretary of the Navy and be confirmed as a judge for the United States District Court of New Jersey. unknown

Baldwin was a civil engineer and had built the dry docks at Charlestown Navy Yard and at Norfolk Navy Yard. <p>Octavo 178x 12 cm. wrappers 26 pp. The All-Russian Union of Poets was organized in Moscow in 1918 and continued to 1929 when it was absorbed into All Russian Union of Writers.</p><p>In 1922 it came under the scrutiny of the NKVD who forced it to change the charter of its aims This collection consists of exponents of various schools "due to the extreme dubiousness of the goals and revolutionary objectives pursued by the Union as well as harmful activities to the ranks of youth." This is the second poetry collection issued by the Union. Poets representing various isms are found here with Mandel'shtam Sestry Tsvetaeva Kon'-Khrom Pasternak Mne v sumerki ty vse.
