Mike Harker flog als erster Mensch mit einem Drachenflieger am 11. April 1973 vom Schneefernerkopf des Zugspitzmassivs nach Ehrwald und wurde damit zum Vorreiter des Drachenfliegens in Europa. Im Dezember 1987 startete er zusammen mit Peter Samstag und zwei weiteren Mitarbeitern mit dem ?Betriebsversuch zur Erprobung des lokalen Rundfunks in Garmisch? den Vorläufer des privaten Rundfunksenders Radio Oberland. "Northrop Corporation was a leading United States aircraft manufacturer from its formation in 1939 until its 1994 merger with Grumman to form Northrop Grumman. The company is known for its development of the flying wing design most successfully the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber.The parent company moved its operations to Kansas in 1931 and so Jack along with Donald Douglas established a "Northrop Corporation" located in El Segundo California which produced several successful designs including the Northrop Gamma and Northrop Delta. However labor difficulties led to the dissolution of the corporation by Douglas in 1937 and the plant became the El Segundo Division of Douglas Aircraft. Northrop still sought his own company and so in 1939 he established the "Northrop Corporation" in nearby Hawthorne California a site located by co-founder Moye Stephens. The corporation ranked 100th among United States corporations in the value of World War II military production contracts. It was there that the P-61 Black Widow night fighter the B-35 and YB-49 experimental flying wing bombers the F-89 Scorpion interceptor the SM-62 Snark intercontinental cruise missile and the F-5 Freedom Fighter economical jet fighter and its derivative the successful T-38 Talon trainer were developed and built. "On the 20th August 1959 the prototype Victor Mark 2 bomber disappeared during flight trials over the Irish Sea. The captain of a coaster bound from the Mersey to the Thames noticed a splash some eight miles away when off the Pembrokeshire coast reported it to Ilfracombe Radio Station and made a brief entry in the ship's log. From then on Operation Victor Search was underway. Controlled by H.M.S. Harrier it involved more than 40 ships and 4000 men and women and was officially described as 'probably the greatest salvage operation of its type ever undertaken'. Those at sea toiled for long and arduous hours often in the most atrocious weather throughout a wild winter and much of the following year. When the final signal 'Return to harbour - search complete' went out the trawlers backed by salvage vessels had carried out more than 12000 hauls and nearly 600000 pieced of the missing Victor had been recovered. This represented 70 per cent of the aircraft and gave the Royal Aircraft Establishment Farnborough enough information for them to be 'reasonably satisfied' that they knew the cause of the accident."
