Klinkowitz Jerome.
YANKS OVER EUROPE: AMERICAN FLYERS IN WORLD WAR II.
Lexington: University Press of Kentucky 1996. 148 pp large 8vo 9 1/4" H. "At first there were just a few a scant seven Americans who in 1940 volunteered for the Royal Air Force in time to fly and fight in the Battle of Britain. One of them a Minnesota farm boy named Art Donahue lived long enough to write about it and with his 1941 account 'Tally-Ho! Yankee in a Spitfire' began a series of memoirs that now number in the hundreds. This book examines more than one hundred narrative accounts of the air war over Europe written since 1941 by American flyers. The experience of combat inspired these men to combine exquisite descriptions with probing thoughtfulness. But the differences in their roles in the war whether hotshot fighters or beleaguered bomber crew members affects how they tell their stories. The author weaves these individual accounts into a tightly drawn highly readable book while letting the flyers speak in their own words." Tiny stain at bottom of both front endpapers minor edge wear book slightly cocked. Hard Cover. Very Good/Near Fine. University Press of Kentucky Hardcover

HARVEST OF MESSERSCHMITTS: THE CHRONICLE OF A VILLAGE AT WAR - 1940.
London: Frederick Warne 1981. 183 pp large 8vo 9 11/16" H. Pictorial endpapers b&w photographs drawings maps. "During the year 1940 a picturesque Kent village in the Downs behind Folkstone and Dover became virtually the epicentre of the greatest of all air conflicts: The Battle of Britain. The village is called Elham and this book is a chronicle of the events that took place there during that momentous year - in the skies above in the streets and in the surrounding countryside. Taking the diary of Mary Smith the daughter of the village Postmaster - in which she briefly recorded the news headlines of the day and any local events that affected her - Dennis Knight has skilfully woven around her brief account a narrative which unfolds gradually to reveal the truly cataclysmic effect of The Battle of Britain on an innocent and peaceful community." Cigarette odour minor browning at margin edges very light browning to edges of textblock small shallow bump to bottom fore-edge of both boards. Dust jacket has light browning on spine and at top edge very minor edge wrinkling. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. Frederick Warne Hardcover
