The Cape first edition in dust jacket
Garden City New York: Doubleday & Company Inc 1971. Near Fine condition in a bright and shiny Very Good dust jacket. Small mark on the jacket's spine where something probably a price sticker was removed. NOT price clipped $6.95. Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a remainder. NOT a library discard. Bound in the original gray cloth lettered in silver and bklack on the spine. Complete with dust jacket. From GoodReads: "Martin Caidin was a prolific and controversial writer. Most of his work centered around the adventures of pilots and astronauts. A number of his books were notable for their reasonable realistic predictions of then-futuristic technology. Caidin's body of work was prolific and varied ranging from additional speculative/SF novels such as Marooned which was made into an acclaimed film and considered a harbinger of the Apollo 13 accident to a novel based upon the character Indiana Jones. He also wrote many non-fiction books about science aviation and warfare. Caidin began writing fiction in 1957. In his career he authored more than 50 fiction and nonfiction books as well as more than 1000 magazine articles. His best-known novel is Cyborg which was the basis for 'The Six Million Dollar Man' franchise. He also wrote numerous works of military history especially concerning aviation. In addition to his writing Caidin was a pilot and active in the restoration and flying of older planes." From a 2014 review by Dustin: "This one was on par with 'Marooned' but not quite as good. It was still a solid story. The technical aspects are so thoroughly covered that the plausibility of the scenarios in the story are easy to believe. I think it would also help if you read this already versed in the history of the space program and the actual progression of missions as well as understanding that the time period explains the sexism and latent racism. I think the story would have been just fine without some of that. At the same time you can see the author is trying to paint as realistic a picture of the area at that time as he can. It's tricky I guess. The majority of the story focuses on the VAB launch pads and Saturn boosters enough to where I wasn't turned off by the peripheral stuff. I'd recommend it but only to space program fans and amateur historians of the Space Coast.". First Edition so stated. Hardcover. Near Fine condition/Very Good dust jacket.
