The contributors naturally featured many of the most eminent artists of the period, including (among many others) Ardizzone, Bawden, Bone, Kennington, Moore, Nash, Piper, Ravilious, Rothenstein, Spencer, Sutherland, Topolski and Worsley. ‎4to., First Edition, with a coloured frontispiece, 3 coloured plates, and very numerous monochrome photographs (a number full-page and illustrations in the text; free endpapers lightly spotted; original blue cloth, upper board with mounted coloured illustration (not repeated in text), upper board and backstrip lettered in black, lower hinge webbing exposed (but binding entirely sound), a remarkably well-preserved, bright, clean copy with almost no trace of the usual fading and soiling. W E Johns [of 'Biggles' fame] is a major contributor. He is credited with four stories and all the coloured plates, but was almost certainly responsible for further content. The first 'Biggles' book was published in the following year. A WONDERFUL COPY OF A SPLENDID PERIOD PIECE AND VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.‎

‎One of 'The Few'. Describing the Experiences of Ted 'Shippy' Shipman, who called his Part in the Battle of Britain 'my Gentle Battle'.‎

'Shippy' Shipman flew in the Battle of Britain with 41 Squadron, only the third RAF squadron to be be equipped with Spitfires. His extensive memoirs, carefully collated by his son, cover his career from initial training to his eventual retirement in 1959. 'Stapme' Stapleton flew Spitfires with 603 Squadron; his 20 confirmed victories include Franz von Werra, later famous as 'the one that got away'. Byron Duckenfield flew Spitfires with 74 Squadron and Hurricanes with 501 Squadron with four enemy aircraft confirmed destroyed. Already scarce in this condition‎

Group Captain John "Cat's Eyes" Cunningham was arguably the greatest RAF night-fighter pilot of WWII. Serving principally with 604 and 85 Squadrons, he is credited with 20 kills, of which 19 were claimed at night. After the war he was appointed chief test pilot for De Havilland, proving both Comet and Trident airliners.‎
