Spine is cocked at the top which has thrown the pages a bit out of square but no pages are loose and the spine is not broken. Spine is a bit sunned has minor edge wear and tiny chip top and bottom has a horizontal crease. Front cover is flat clean bright has minor edge wear has a few thin vertical creases beside spine has a 1/4 inch chip out of cover top inner corner has a 3/8 inch rip on cover lower inner corner has a 1/2 inch closed rip near lower outer corner and this area has two small bumps and faint crease lines from whatever caused the small rip. Back cover is flat clean bright has minor edge wear has several thin vertical creases beside spine has a little bit of the black rubbed off on one of the vertical creases. Page edges don’t appear to be sunned. Inside of book is tight clean clear bright flat. Pages 1 to 26 are pushed out further on the side than the rest of the book due to the slight lean in the spine but no pages are loose or missing. Some age darkening inside covers and on edges of some pages. A few pages dog eared about 1/2 inch restored flat. Owner’s name date small in ink on ffep. No photos no illustrations. Book VERY GOOD PLUS/ Covers Good Minus. Covers are white/blue lettering white/red/black pictorial front three black/white photos on back. Spine is totally original and is legible but is a bit sunned has vertical spine creases and has clear cello tape on both vertical sides and 8 pieces of 1/2 inch tape across spine horizontally from top to bottom the cello tape has gone a bit yellow so this looks terrible but the covers aren’t as bad as they look. Front cover is flat and clear no rips several creases across top corner several creases on body of cover but many of them are not easy to see front cover has a few places where the top layer of paper is rubbed off biggest is an irregularly shaped area which is 1 x 1 inch from outer edge to outer edge the front cover has the 8 pieces of cello tape coming onto it from spine and these are yellowed some cracks in front cover colour have made thin white lines so front cover isn’t pretty but it is all there see my photo minor edge wear. Back cover is white which is a bit age darkened is clear no rips several creases across bottom corner several creases on body of cover but many are not easy to see no rub marks has a 1/2 x 1/8 inch light brown stain on top cover edge back cover also has the 8 pieces of cello tape slightly yellowed and a bit crispy. Page edges a bit sunned and side edge has a few small ink lines. Inside of book is tight clean clear bright flat. Some age darkening inside covers and on pages. At ffep and title page I think there was an attempt to glue the spine down because the ffep is glued to the cover unevenly and there is a blob of glue extending about 1/2 inch into ffep at title page it seems that the glue ran onto the inner edge of the ffep and next to the title page the back of the ffep is bumpy and has two small closed rips. At the back cover the same attempt with glue was made which has glued the back end paper to the inside of the back cover by about 1/2 inch. This book isn’t very pretty but aside from the cover it is all there tight and clear. Book 158. Black/white photo plates. Fontana Books London U.K. paperback‎

Dust jacket is price clipped has one minor chip on bottom of dj front fold a 1/2 inch tear on bottom of dj spine and very minor small area of slight curl in top edge of dj back the dust jacket is in excellent condition except for an unfortunate piece missing out of the dj front cover this piece is from the spine edge to across the top edge of the dj by 6 1/2 inches and then diagonally down to 3 1/4 inches in other words the missing piece covers from 3 1/2 inches down the dust jacket spine out diagonally to a 1 inch depth missing 6 1/2 inches across the top edge of dj. The book itself has covers and spine flat clean bright no rips no bent corners no spine creases. Inner end papers are yellow. Inside of book is tight clean bright clear flat it has been slightly over-opened at the chapter 2 title page but book is not broken and spine does not show. Owner’s name date ink on ffep. Front cover is flat bright no rips one faint crease at each corner and one near spine a few thin vertical spine creases some edge wear but no chips or rips or holes front cover has a few areas of light grey drips looks like perhaps milk. Spine is is slightly cocked has two areas of several thin vertical spine creases paper has come away from the glue at the top of spine for 1/4 inch with a 1/4 inch tear at top left of spine and a 1/16 inch tear at top right of spine has some minor chipping of black colour on spine edges. Back cover is flat bright no rips two bent corner tips a few thin vertical spine creases some edge wear but no chips or rips or holes back cover has same light grey drips as front which are almost invisible. Page edges yellow and maybe a bit darker than when new. Inner end papers are white. Inside of book is tight clean clear flat. The spine glue has moved a bit so there is an internal crack at Page 98 which reveals the spine the entire height of the page but no pages are loose or missing. When laid flat at Page 98 there is a 3/8 inch gap at the top between Page 98 and 99 and a 5/32 inch gap at the bottom between those pages. Some age darkening inside covers and on most pages. Book VERY GOOD PLUS. No dust jacket issued or is missing. Boards are grey leatherette with black lettering. Very small creases at top and bottom of spine other than that virtually no wear showing on covers/spine. Corners straight. Sewn binding upper edges of pages are red as issued not faded. Back end papers show sky and rocket going up. Front end papers show launch towers and rocket just launched. Possibly a very slight sag in book interior as bottom page corner tips have touched the shelf in a size about 1/8 inch x 1/8. Front board and first free end page have been overzealously opened and the paper is torn along the spine revealing the sewn backing which makes the spine a bit looser from the book but the sewn cloth backing is not cut or torn and the cover is not tearing away from the book. It’s barely noticeable but for the small 1/8 inch gap in the centre of he colour photo on the end pages and the slight looseness of the cover. Rag edge pages. 6 sections of Black/white photo plates matte finish. Someone wrote “Beginning in 1959 NASA began a series of rocket tests with the goal of putting a man in space. Covers are orange thick paper with an ostrich grain to it lettering black spine is covered with a 1 inch strip of dark brown cloth. Covers and spine are flat bright no rips one slightly bent corner one slightly creased corner a few minor shallow creases on front cover two tiny 1/8 and 1/16 inch triangular dents in front cover but did not break the paper small piece 1/2 inch x 1/8 inch of cloth spine binding is bent at lower front spine miniscule edge wear mostly in one place each on top and bottom spine edge light soiling of front cover and a bit more soiling on back cover with some small dark brown dots but both covers are still a vibrant orange and the soiling is hardly remarkable and is to be expected in a 1931 book. Page edges slightly sunned and side edges have light finger soil but no stains. Inner end papers are white on the inside of the orange front cover there was a name in fountain pen and it has been erased very well being all but invisible and did not damage the cover at all. Inside of book is tight clean bright flat there are twenty four 1/2 inch long pencil lines in margins from A to the CRO words and none after that. The Introduction page has a 1/16 x 3/16 chip in the side edge but the paper is there and can be folded back in place. Very gently read. No photos no illustrations.
