This is a complete issue, seldom found in such good and original condition. This is a fascinating travel account by the well-known traveller and geologist, Dr. Harrison, an account of the difficulties and the hardships of his journeys in Luristan, the broken mountainous country on the Iraq boundary, a rather inaccessible region of magnificent scenery. Cognisant of the dangers, Harrison travelled with a nominal escort and kept the mule caravan as small and unpretentious as possible. After his twenty years dedicated to exploration in Persia, he describes changes "from anarchy to order, from the primitive to the sophisticated, from distinctive tribal dress to uniform shabby hand-me-downs".

The bindings are fairly tight on both books with some foxing present on pages; surface soiling on the boards with slight rubbing to the spines. Overall in good condition. unknown

Hier waren es die Byzantiner selbst, die den seldschukischen Truppen eine friedliche Einahme der Stadt ermöglichten. Etwa um 1078, also noch vor der Machtergreifung Alexis I. A noteworthy and engaging study of the life and custom of the Chaouïa Berbers, the Aurasian people eastern Algeria's Aurès mountains, and of French influence a region which would be fraught with brutality in a revolutionary war only thirteen years later, as the same people would fight for independence. Describing it as one of the most clearly defined cultural regions in North Africa, the account presents a mixture of cultural, religious, linguistic and ethnographical analyses with topics such as agricultural practices, the tradition of transhumance and annual migration in search of better watered pastures, important commodities in a semi-nomadic society, flat topped dwellings in small villages or dechras, a description of Menâa which was one of the largest villages, defence against invading enemy tribes, weaponry and restrictions on the latter, the impact of French assimilation efforts on Berber society even with a nominal number of foreigners physically present, and in turn, Berber interest in French culture. The lieutenant's account is well illustrated, further providing notes and statistics relating to the images.

Slight wear and soiling to binder. In early 1981 the Saudi government requested American assistance in providing meteorological support to the Kingdom's military forces. This request was accepted. This document constitutes a visionary organizational arrangement for the Kingdom. Weather morale and logistics are three imponderables of warfare with morale and logistics significantly affected by weather. This plan considers the unique position of the Kingdom the sophisticated armaments in the region command and control requirements economy of force and responsiveness to external contingencies among other factors. The plan represents the then state of the art technology and equipment and required a military-civil mix of personnel to execute and to understand and respond to military needs. This plan was prepared by a joint Saudi and U.S. team comprised of highly-skilled professionals including a number from the U.S. Department of Defense and the military services. This plan was deemed to meet military requirements standardize the service emphasize safety and operations response and to aid in decisions affecting the rules of engagement.
