DERIN KAPTANOGLU.
First glance with tezhip.= Tezhip sanatiyla ilk tanisma.
New English Paperback. 4to. (27 x 21 cm). In English and Turkish. 48 p., ills. First glance with tezhip.= Tezhip sanatiyla ilk tanisma. "Tezhip is an art of illumination and ornamentation. The origins of Tezhip goes back to Uygur Turks (742-840). Turks brought this art from Central Asia through Anatolia with the influence of many different cultures and regions. So, we can say Tezhip has been a constantly developing and refreshing art since the ancient times and constantly changing. This art is applied either with gold or different colored paints. Ottoman Sultans showed much interest in this art and showed great support for it. Unfortunately, with the invention of printing press, the handwriting, and of course the illuminations and ornamentation applied around these handwriting had a negative impact. There are some traditional motives used in Tezhip and I want to make an introduction of some of these motives to you. I love this art a lot as it is our national art, belonging to Turkish Culture. It is a reflection of Turkish people. This art can be used in many areas; can be applied on furniture, building designs, even for jewelry you can create impressive products with this art. I thank Iris Kucukbayraktar, who has given me inspiration for this art. She always had a great patience in explaining to me how to draw Tezhip. I also want to pass this art to others who want to explore and enjoy it. I made all the drawings in this book by using watercolors and freehand brush technique." Derin Kaptanoglu was born in 2003. She had her first education in Turkey, in "Sev Ilkögretim Okulu" for 8 years. She has been drawing si nce the age of two. She is getting a professional help for three years from Iris Küçükbayraktar. She has been doing diving for three and swimming for six years and got licence from both of them. She had five years of private lessons to play the piano. The summer camp "Le Rosey" that she has been go ing for three years alsa helped her with developing her skills in art. She is now getting her education in Westonbirt School in The United Kingdom.

Storie intrecciate. Cristiani, ebrei e musulmani tra scritture, oggetti e narrazioni (Mediterraneo, secc. XVI-XIX)

DILEK BEKTAS.
Nomads in the Ottoman Empire.= Osmanli döneminde konar-göçerler.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English and Turkish. 310 p., ills. Nomads in the Ottoman Empire.= Osmanli döneminde konar-göçerler. The Turks migrated originally from Central Asia to Anatolia between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries. Most of them were sedentary communities. However, a significant portion was nomads, called Oghuz, or Türkmen, at that time. These nomads used to move between regions identified as summer pasturages and winter quarters in order to graze their animals. Therefore, their lifestyle was substantially different from sedentary life. Even after Anatolia was brought under Ottoman rule by the end of the first quarter of the 16th century, they continued their traditional lifestyle. During the Ottoman conquests, these nomads migrated to the Balkans in accordance with the policy pursued by the state. The nomads in the Balkans were generally organized as military units. During the Ottoman period the nomads were known by the names of Türkmen and Yörük or Yürük. These names were generally used to describe their way of life, rather than their ethnic origin. However, these terms were often sed interchangeably. At the same time, various other words were used for the nomads, such as 'Konar-göçer', 'Göçebe', 'Göçer-yörük', 'Göçerler', and 'Göçer-evliler'. The most common one among these was 'Konar-göçer'. All of these words are found in Ottoman archival documents and carry only the meaning of 'nomad'. Geographically, the nomads of the Ottoman period spread from Anatolia to the Balkans and formed an important portion of the Ottoman population. Despite this fact, research remains insufficient regarding the nomadic peoples. The reason for this has been keener isterest by historians in Turkey concerning the foundation of the Turkish Republic and political and administrative issues rather than nomadism. Research in Ottoman social history was not popular among these historians. However, as research on Ottoman social history grew, so did interest in nomadic populations.

DILÂVER CEBECI.
Divan siirinde kadin.
