[MANUSCRIPT] [Ottoman Prokopi sanitary report] Konya Sihhiye Müfettisligi'nin 16 Tesrinievvel 1327 tarihli mezkûr müfettislige takdim olunan rapordur ki 327 senesi Ürgüp'te zuhur eden koleraya dairdir.; Vilâyetin topografya-yi sihhiye ve harita-yi sihhiyesi. The report on the cholera occurring in Ürgüp in 1910, which was presented to the Inspectorate of Konya Sihhiye on October 16, 1910. Besides cholera, it contains information about diseases such as measles. 1329 (Hegira) written at the end of first 10-paged report. The second part contains title: Mecelle-i Memâlik-i Osmaniye'ye ait minvallere cevabât yazilarak Üsküp Kaymakamligi'na takdim olunan 'Müslüman Sihhiye' raporu [= Muslim health report submitted to the Ürgüp (Prokopi) District Governor]. This and following next chapters include general health and sanity registers on epidemics like 'frengi' (syphilis, pox), all kinds of 'humma' (pyrexia) and several others (almost more 15 titles) and give information about how often diseases are encountered in the region of Prokopi and Cappadocia. One folded map which is hand-drawn includes color markers as 'Ürgüp Bölgesi saglik haritasi' [= Prokopi region sanity and epidemic map]. Also it shows demographic and historical info about region. There are 3 statistical tables contain demographic, historical, religious info such 'Muslim' and 'Non-Muslim'. Maps and tables are perfectly drawn. Another chapter is 'Usul-i sihhiye', has all epidemics and their historical and demographic contexts, their cures etc. Book was written in a very nice hand-writing. Used black, blue, and red inks. Report was not published before such as that. Roumi: 1327 = Gregorian: 1910. The Ottoman land represented a bridge between Asia and Europe, which was destroyed by epidemic diseases that emerged in different periods. In the 19th century, the main source of epidemic was the cholera morbus that emerged in India in the lower Bengal delta between the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers. At the beginning of the 19th century, the disease became a global threat. Cholera epidemic appeared for the first time in the Ottoman territory in 1822, and continued to emerge into intermediate outbreaks. Due to its geographical location, the cholera epidemic was easily spread to the Ottoman territory and caused great losses in the 19th century, when it became a global threat. At the beginning of the 20th century, still cholera was a serious problem. Prokopi is a settlement in Central Asia Minor, built on a plateau at an altitude of 1,200 m above sea level. It lies near the confluence of four tributary rivers of the Alys River (Kizilirmak), which flows to the north of Ürgüp, within about 10 km from the settlement. It has been claimed that the word Ürgüp is the Turkish version of the Greek name Prokopi. The latter is supposed to refer to St. Prokopios, although there is no evidence suggesting the existence of a namesake church. Levidis supported that the ancient name of the settlement was Osiana, which the traveller Texier (Charles) adopted as well. Ürgüp was inhabited by Muslims, Turkish-speaking Greek-Orthodox and some Armenians. Several conflicting opinions have been stated about the population. Farasopoulos talks about 15,000 Muslims and 5,000 Christians. According to an inventory carried out by the state in 1919, Ürgüp was inhabited by 12,500 Muslims, 6,000 Christian-Orthodox and 15-20 Armenian families.

KOÇI BEY, (-1650).
Koçi Bey risalesi. Simdiye kadar elde edilememis olan tarihi eserin tamami. Annotated by Ali Kemali Aksüt.
Very Good Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (23 x 16 cm). In Turkish. 130, [14] p., 1 b/w unrealistic portrait frontispiece. First Edition in modern Turkish. Koçi Bey (died 1650) was a high-ranking Ottoman bureaucrat who lived in the first half of the 17th century. He was an ethnic Albanian, born in Korçë in eastern Albania. Within the scope of the devshirme system, he studied in the Enderun (palace school) in Istanbul. He was assigned to various posts and became the consultant of two sultans, Murat IV (1623-1640) and Ibrahim (1640-1648). He prepared a series of reports (Turkish: Risale) about reforms in the empire. He presented his first report to Murat IV in 1631, and the second to Ibrahim in 1640. Although the literary style of the first was more elaborate than the second, the main points were the same. In his reports he emphasized that the cause of unrest in the empire was the corruption of the timar (fief) system. He suggested a smaller and more disciplined army and a more authoritarian leadership. Towards the end of Ibrahim's reign he retired and returned to Korçë, his home town for the rest of his life. He was buried in Plamet village.

KÂTIB ÇELEBI, HACI HALIFE MUSTAFA BIN ABDULLAH. [Hajji Khalifa, Kalfa] (1609-1657).
Kitab-i cihannûma li-Kâtib Çelebi. Vol. 1: Reprint. Vol. 2: Transcription. 2 volumes set. Editor-in-chief: Nevzat Bayhan.
New English In original Ottoman style full leather bounds. Folio. 2 volumes set: iii, [27], 698 p. reprint in Ottoman language, 40 color plts.; 700 p. transcription in Modern Turkish. Reprinted from 1732, Ibrahim Muteferrika Edition. (See Ozege for it's original: 3048.). A very heavy set. Ibrahim Muteferrika printed Katib Celebi's well-known book on geography and cosmography 'Cihannuma' in 1732 by adding a supplement containing new information on astronomy and Ottoman geography and maps, in which he relied mostly on Ebu Bekir b. Behram el-Dimaski's (d. 1691) work on the Cihannuma. The appendix in which Muteferrika explained the 'old' and the 'new' world systems produced by Tycho Brahe, Copernicus and Descartes as well as Galileo's theories of the moving bodies was extracted from Edmond Pourchot's (1651 - 1734) well-known work 'Institutiones philosophicae'. Pourchot himself was a reknowned philosopher and was elected rector of the University of Paris seven times. The text compiled by Muteferrika on the heliocentric system would represent comprehensive Turkish text on this subject for a century. Katip Celebi's book of Cihannuma (Jihannuma. View of the World) is a geographical work that makes the first use, in Turkey, of European atlases and other sources.

Kâzim Özalp was involved to 31 March Incident in 1909. He was a military commander during the Balkan wars. In 1917, he was promoted to the rank of the colonel. He was one of the military commanders who organized resistance groups against the occupation of Izmir. During the Turkish War of Independence, he fought at several fronts. In 1921, Kâzim Özalp was promoted to the rank General for his success at the Battle of Sakarya. Already a member of the first term of the parliament of the newly established Republic as an MP from Balikesir Province, Kâzim Fikri served as the Minister of Defense in several cabinets from 1921 to 1925, and later from 1935 to 1939. He was elected Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly from 1924 to 1935. In 1950, he was elected to the parliament as an MP from Van Province. He retired from active politics in 1954. He was rumored to have been a Bektashi possibly because of his opposition to the decision to close Bektashi centers (Tekke). Kâzim Özalp wrote his memoirs in his book Milli Mücadele ("National Struggle"). He died on 6 June 1968 in Ankara. His remains were transferred to the Turkish State Cemetery. (Wikipedia).
