‎Nazli's guestbook. Osman Hamdi Bey's circle.= Nazli'nin defteri. Osman Hamdi Bey'in çevresi.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (31 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. Color and b/w ills. 304 p. Personal logs and memoirs of Osman Hamdi's daughter, Nazli between 1907-1911. An ego-documentary study enlightened Turkish archaeology, painting, history of arts, and social life at the beginning of 20th Century in late Ottoman period. "This book focuses on the guestbook of Nazli Hamdi, which consists of dedications by her father Osman Hamdi Bey's circle of relatives, close friends, colleagues, or just acquaintances. The exhibition aims to shed light on the cultural environment of the era following the signatures in the notebook that belong to the leading intellectuals of the period; including the famous archaeologist- spy Gertrude Bell, founder of the illustrated magazine Servet-i Fünun, Ahmed Ihsan, the crown prince of Bavaria Rupprecht and one of the greatest poetess of late Ottoman literature, Nigar Hanim among many others Nazli Hamdi was the youngest child of Osman Hamdi Bey and his wife Marie/Naile Hanim. Born in 1893, Nazli kept a guestbook between 1907 and 1911, for visitors to sign alongside a few kind words, much like her peers. It is this guestbook, bearing traces of over thirty individuals, that constitutes the backbone of the exhibition. The display attempts to present, identify, and relate to Nazli and Osman Hamdi, or even to one another, this mix of visitors; locals and foreigners, men and women, archaeologists, authors, artists, diplomats At the same time, it examines the story of a woman, grew up in a Westernized elite family, whose life extends from the late Ottoman period up through the early years of the Republic of Turkey.".‎

‎Heritage of Anatolia. A 3d visual exploration. [With a DVD].‎

‎New English Original bdg. 4to. (34 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 130 p., fully ills. Captured throughout a five years working process, the Istanbul artist Efe Isildaksoy photographed numerous ancient sites and monuments across Turkey in a unique three-dimensional photo technique. A collection of his photographs is now self-published and offers a stunning visual exploration of the rich Anatolian cultural heritage. Reflecting attributes of Lycian, Classical, Persian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman settlements. The 3D photo book Heritage of Anatolia provides a new perspective on the greatest places of antiquity: the thousands of years old remains and the historical importance of past civilizations in this region are visualized in exceptional three-dimensional photographs, among them famous international tourist attractions and UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Ephesus, Pergamon, Troy, Cappadocia, and Mount Nemrut. Located foremost in the context of Lycian, Classical, Persian, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine eras, the archaeological finds at the photographed sites are dated back to a time scale ranging from approx. 7th Millennium BC to 5th century AD. Based on a selection of 56 remarkable archaeological complexes, the book contains 128 full-page color prints, a map and an index of the sites. More than 1300 additional 3D photos on DVD and a set of two 3D glasses are attached inside the book to guarantee full reading enjoyment. Focusing exclusively on the visual exploration of these outstanding ruins and archeological excavations, the three-dimensional photographs allow a wealth of detail not often found in other sources. The remains of monumental temples, colossal theatres, extensive city walls and fortifications, public houses and baths, tombs and sarcophagi, elaborate sculptures, ornamentations and inscriptions can be perceived in an exceptional vivid way. The 3D photographs generate a spatial depth that practically draws the viewer into the atmosphere of past times, and instantly captures the reader's fascination. Presented in such an impressive way, the visualized information can be studied with greater accuracy and leaves a thrilling impact on the viewer's comprehension. For those passionate for the ancient, for those looking for inspiration, for those curious about evolution, for students or the layman, as well as for advanced readers with a background in archaeology, architecture, cultural studies, history, Asia Minor, Middle East or other fields of study, Heritage of Anatolia is an ideal source for getting involved with the past and acquiring knowledge about these exceptional sites, artefacts and civilizations.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. Oblong large 8vo. (20 x 22 cm). In English and Turkish. 312 p., many color and b/w ills. Journey to the center of the East, 1850-1950. 100 years of travelers in Istanbul from Pierre de Gigord Collection.= Dogu'nun merkezine seyahat, 1850-1950. Pierre de Gigord Koleksiyonu'ndan Istanbul'da gezginlerin 100 yili. [Exhibition catalogue]. Coordinated by Zeynep Ögel, Erkan Bora, Gülru Tanman. This exhibition tells the tale of the Istanbul-centred travels of curious Westerners, who ventured out to the East from the 18th century onwards. Geographers, archaeologists, linguists, architects, botanist and clergymen all travelled across the East from the late 18th until the mid-19th century researching their particular interests. After the Crimean War, the expedition-oriented travel that was so popular until the 1850s was replaced by a different kind of travel. The objective was no longer information gathering, but tourism. Based on materials selected from the vast collection of Pierre de Gigord, one of the leading collectors of Ottoman-era photographs and ephemera, this exhibition sheds light on the early years of mass tourism that replaced individual journeys of discovery and transformed travel culture.‎

‎Anatolia in the Byzantine Period = Bizans Dönemi'nde Anadolu. [HC EDITION]‎

‎New English Original bdg. HC. Folio. (34 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 496 p., color and b/w ills. After the death of Emperor Theodosius I in 395, the vast Roman lands stretching from the shores of the English Channel to the borders of Iran were divided into two realms, western and eastern. Although the western part of the empire faded away in the second half of the 5th century, the Roman Empire continued to exist in its eastern territories until 1453. The name "Byzantine" was used for the first time by the German humanist and philologist Hieronymus Wolf in the 16th century for this empire, whose capital was moved from Rome to the city of Byzantion (with its new name, Constantinople) and became Christian over time. This term became widespread in the 19th century and later. However, the people that this book is about have always called themselves "Roman" and their state the "Roman Empire", while their neighbors also knew them as "Romans". The Byzantine Empire that ruled for about 11 centuries is one of the states whose reign lasted the longest in Anatolia. Anatolia was the geographical, demographic, and economic cradle of this predominantly Greek-speaking Christian population and its culture. The loss of Anatolia as of the 14th century led to the end of the empire in a short time. The cry of Emperor Theodore II Laskaris - "Holy land, my mother, Anatolia!" - in one of his letters from the mid-13th century shows how vital these lands were for the empire. This book aims to present both Byzantine culture and, more specifically, Byzantine Anatolia, through 32 articles by Turkish and foreign Byzantologists, who are experts in their respective fields. While the articles on political, bureaucratic, military, economic and religious life focus on the state apparatus and social structure, articles on literature, health, art, and material culture remains provide valuable information about daily life. In the articles that constitute the last part of the book, the reader is invited to a historical journey through different geographical regions of Byzantine Anatolia.‎

‎Osmanli belgelerinde Kuveyt: Istanbul'daki Osmanli arsivlerinden seçilmis belgeler, 1850-1900.‎

‎New Turkish Paperback. 4to. In Arabic and Turkish. 256 p. Osmanli Arsiv Belgelerinde Müslüman Ülkeler Tarihi Serisi No. 6. (From the Series of the History of Muslim Countries in the Ottoman Archival Documents No. 6). Kuwait based on the Ottoman documents. "Kuwait in Ottoman Documents Selected documents from the Ottoman Archives in Istanbul 1850-1900" falls within the scope of the scholarly efforts IRCICA is deploying to facilitate the access of researchers to Ottoman documents. It is the first work of its kind to contain a large number of Ottoman documents on Kuwait. The Ottoman Archives in Istanbul contain a large collection of documents related to Kuwait. However, they cannot be limited to one volume. The documents adorning the pages of this book were chosen from among thousands if not tens of thousands of documents reserved in the Ottoman Archives in Istanbul. They are selections dating back to a specific period of time and not the whole Ottoman presence in the region: they cover an important part of the history of Kuwait during the second half of the 19th century. They were chosen by Prof. Dr. Fazil Bayat considering what could be most important for researchers dealing with the history of Kuwait during that period. They shed light on major events that occurred in the Kuwait region and the relations between the Ottoman Empire and its rulers, Al Sabah family, in that period. The information they contain has been examined meticulously and with absolute accuracy. A specific method was followed in presenting the documents. The original text of each document is presented side by side with its summary in Arabic. Furthermore, the author examined and analysed each document, outlined it in a simplified form, and added clarifications whenever necessary to facilitate comprehension. As such, the book will be a useful reference to facilitate the task of researchers concerned.‎
