Osmanli belgelerinde Kuveyt: Istanbul'daki Osmanli arsivlerinden seçilmis belgeler, 1850-1900.
New Turkish Paperback. 4to. In Arabic and Turkish. 256 p. Osmanli Arsiv Belgelerinde Müslüman Ülkeler Tarihi Serisi No. 6. (From the Series of the History of Muslim Countries in the Ottoman Archival Documents No. 6). Kuwait based on the Ottoman documents. "Kuwait in Ottoman Documents Selected documents from the Ottoman Archives in Istanbul 1850-1900" falls within the scope of the scholarly efforts IRCICA is deploying to facilitate the access of researchers to Ottoman documents. It is the first work of its kind to contain a large number of Ottoman documents on Kuwait. The Ottoman Archives in Istanbul contain a large collection of documents related to Kuwait. However, they cannot be limited to one volume. The documents adorning the pages of this book were chosen from among thousands if not tens of thousands of documents reserved in the Ottoman Archives in Istanbul. They are selections dating back to a specific period of time and not the whole Ottoman presence in the region: they cover an important part of the history of Kuwait during the second half of the 19th century. They were chosen by Prof. Dr. Fazil Bayat considering what could be most important for researchers dealing with the history of Kuwait during that period. They shed light on major events that occurred in the Kuwait region and the relations between the Ottoman Empire and its rulers, Al Sabah family, in that period. The information they contain has been examined meticulously and with absolute accuracy. A specific method was followed in presenting the documents. The original text of each document is presented side by side with its summary in Arabic. Furthermore, the author examined and analysed each document, outlined it in a simplified form, and added clarifications whenever necessary to facilitate comprehension. As such, the book will be a useful reference to facilitate the task of researchers concerned.

KEMAL EDIB [KÜRKÇÜOGLU], (Turkish poet), (1902-1977).
Unpublished autograph poem signed 'Bende-i Mevlânâ Kemal Edib'.
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript unpublished autograph poem signed by Kemal Edib. 20x14 cm. In Ottoman script. 18 verses. This unpublished poem by Kemal Edib is titled 'Su-yi tarih'. Dated only 1361 AH. Signed as 'Bende-i Mevlânâ Kemal Edib' [i.e. Slave to Mawlana Kemal Edib]. Mevlana is a title given to people who are seen as leaders in the religion of Islam or who are successful in Islamic sciences. Although it is frequently used by Islamic scholars and religious leaders especially in the Indian Subcontinent, it is not used much in West Asia. It is often used in Turkish and Persian literature to refer to Jalaluddin Rûmî and is therefore mistakenly understood as part of that person's name or as his own specific nickname or title. Derived from the word Mawla, this word means "our master". Although the Swahili language in Africa, like other languages, derives the word from its origin in Arabic, it uses it in a much more general sense: the word is generally given to people respected by their community and does not have to bear religious emphasis, it can be used in a secular context. In this signature, the poet might this title to refer to Rumi. Kemal Edip Kürkçüoglu, (1902-1977), who had taught history, literature, and Islamic mysticism in high schools and faculties and done administrative services, was a poet and scholar whose fifteen books about religion, history, and literature had been published. Only a few of his poems had been published until today. (Source: The Poem Of Kemal Edip Kürkçüoglu Eulogizing Jalâl Al-Dîn Al-Rûmî, by Emine Terzioglu).

[Hediyyetü'l-irfân der] Serh-i Baharistan. Annoted by Mehmed Sakir, (1764-1836).
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original dark green leather-bound with a flap (miklep). Scratched and fading on binding. Boards gilded traditional decorations. Traditionally framed text peculiar to classical texts of the Islamic world. Minor stains on several pages. Slightly faded on boards. Otherwise a good copy. Large demy 8vo. 822i5 x 15 cm). In Ottoman script. 607 p. Nur ad-Din Abd ar-Rahman Jami, also known as Jami, Mawlana Nur al-Din 'Abd al-Rahman or Abd-Al-Rahman Nur-Al-Din Muhammad Dashti who is commonly known as Jami (August 18, 1414 - November 17, 1492), is known for his achievements as a scholar, mystic, writer, composer of numerous lyrics and idylls, historian, and the greatest Persian and Tajik Sufi poets of the 15th century. Jami was primarily an outstanding poet-theologian of the school of Ibn Arabi and a prominent Khwajagani Sufi. He was recognized for his eloquent tongue and ready at repartee who analyzed the idea of the metaphysics of mercy. Among his famous poetical works are Haft Awrang, Tuhfat al-Ahrar, Layla wa Majnun, Fatihat al-Shabab, Lawa'ih, Al-Durrah al-Fakhirah. Jami worked within the Timurid court of Herat helping to serve as an interpreter and communicator. His poetry reflected Persian culture and was popular through Islamic East, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. His poetry addressed popular ideas that led to Sufi's and non-Sufi's interest in his work. He was known not only for his poetry, but his theological works and commentary on culture. His work was used in several schools from Samarqand to Istanbul to Khayrabad in Persia as well as in the Mughal Empire. For centuries Jami was known for his poetry and profound knowledge. In the last half-century, Jami has begun to be neglected and his works forgotten, which reflects an overarching issue in the lack of research of Islamic and Persian studies. Hediyyetü'l-irfân der serh-i Bahâristân, which was written by Mehmed Sâkir Efendi, is a commentary of the classic of Molla Câmi's Bahâristân. Hediyyetü'l-irfân der serh-i Bahâristân is an important work written in classical commentary style on the Ottoman field. In the work completed in 1794, it is also possible to find information about fields such as Islam, mysticism, history, geography, culture, aesthetics, astronomy, physics, biology, zoology, music as well as rich content related to language and literature. Mehmed Sakir Efendi analyzed Persian and Arabic source words in terms of grammar and semantics; gave information about the language and literary arts; translated sentences by paying attention to their meaning subtlety; enriched the commentary text with gracious verses, honorable hadiths, and his personal comments. Mehmed Sâkir Efendi, (1764-1836), was grown up in Enderun school and had some duties and services in Ottoman Palace, and also was recorded as "sayyid, hodja, dülbend agasi, rikâbdâr, sanjak sheikh, poet, translator, and commentator". He translated Rumi's Masnawi as well. Özege 7257.; TBTK 7106. First Edition.

JEAN-BAPTISTE ANNIBAL AUBERT DU BAYET, (French General and politician during the period of the French Revolution, and an 18th-century ambassador to the Ottoman Empire), (1759-1797).
Autograph document signed 'Aubert du Bayet', with six other co-signatures by other politic figures.
Very Good French Original manuscript autograph document signed by Jean-Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet. 31,5x20,5 cm. In French. 1 p. With a blind-stamped seal. A legible and fine handwritten letter. English: General Aubert du Bayet, Ambassador of the French Republic near the Othomane gate, the departure of the company of Artillery, light employee in the instruction of the Turks and that of the French officers previously employed or destined to the service of the great lord; Decrees that the citizen Collin, former major of the infantry who came to Constantinople after authorization from the government, will return to France shortly and that he will benefit for this purpose from the building which will lead the company of light artillery to Ancona [sic. Angora - Ankara]. Jean-Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet (19 August 1759, Louisiana - 17 December 1797, Istanbul) was a French General and politician during the period of the French Revolution. Aubert du Bayet was born in Baton-Rouge in the French American colony of Louisiana in 1759. Aubert du Bayet participated in the campaigns in America during the American Revolutionary War. Aubert du Bayet arrived in France at the beginning of the Revolution, but was initially hostile to revolutionary ideas. While in Metz, as a young Captain, he published an anti-Jewish pamphlet entitled Le cri du citoyen contre les Juifs. However, he soon saw that it could serve his ambitions. He became a member of the legislature in 1791. Aubert du Bayet was President of the French National Assembly (the "Legislative Assembly") from 8 July 1792 to 22 July 1792. In 1793, he served as General of Brigade in the heroic defense of Mayence in 1793, when he finally had to surrender to the Prussian Army. He then seconded Hoche in Vendée in the fight against the Chouans in the War in the Vendée. He then became Minister of Defense of France ("Minister of War") from 3 November 1795 to 8 February 1796. In 1796, General Aubert du Bayet was appointed as ambassador ("Minister of the Republic") to the Ottoman Empire. He was sent to the Ottoman court with artillery equipment, and French artillerymen and engineers to help with the development of the Ottoman arsenals and foundries. Infantry and cavalry officers were also to train the Spahis and Janissaries, but they were frustrated by the opposition of the Janissaries. Ironically, some of these troops, trained to Western methods, were successfully employed against the French troops of Napoleon a few years later under Sir Sydney Smith at the Siege of Saint-Jean d'Acre in 1799. Their behaviour delighted Selim III, and upon their return, they were named Nizam-gedittes or "New Regulars", but they were eventually slaughtered and dispersed by the Janissaries and conservative clerics and politicians, leading to the deposition of Selim III. Aubert du Bayet died of fever in 1797, in Constantinople. Co-signed by six politic figures in its period, however, they cannot be determined. Very rare.

MOUSTAPHA RECHID PASHA THE GREAT, (Ottoman statesman and diplomat), (1800-1858).
[FATHER OF THE OTTOMAN REFORM / TANZIMAT] Autograph letter signed 'Rechid' with his original engraved portrait.
Very Good French Original ALS / ADS signed by Koca Moustapha Rechid Pasha the Great with his an engraved portrait in the same fine frame. 1 p. on bifolium. In French. 12 lines. It's written from Paris, when he was appointed as an Ottoman ambassador to France five years later from the Ottoman Reform in 1839. Koca Mustafa Pasha was an Ottoman statesman and diplomat, known best as the chief architect behind the Ottoman government reforms known as Tanzimat. Born in Constantinople (now Istanbul) in 1800, Mustafa Resid entered public service at an early age and rose rapidly, becoming ambassador to France (1834) and to the United Kingdom (1836), minister for foreign affairs (1837), and once again ambassador to the United Kingdom (1838) and to France (1841). In the settlement of the Oriental Crisis of 1840, and during the Crimean War and the ensuing peace negotiations, he rendered important diplomatic services to the Ottoman state. He returned a third time as ambassador to France in 1843. Between 1845 and 1857, he held the office of Grand Vizier six times. One of the greatest and most versatile statesmen of his time, thoroughly acquainted with European politics and well-versed in national and international affairs, he was a convinced partisan for reform and the principal author of the legislative remodeling of the Ottoman administration known as Tanzimat. His efforts to promote reforms within the government led to the advancement of the careers of many other reformers, such as Fuad Pasha and Mehmed Emin Âli Pasha. After the conclusion of the Oriental Crisis of 1840 due to Muhammad Ali in Egypt, Muhammad Ali Pasha bribed the Ottoman Porte to remove Mustafa Rechid Pasha from his post as Foreign Minister. He returned to his post as Ambassador to Paris soon after where he mainly focused his efforts on solving the Lebanon Question, which resulted from a dispute between a Christian group called the Maronites based out of Lebanon and an extremist Shia group called the Druzes who came from Syria and Lebanon.

Turkey - Africa in the Turkish archival sources.= Türk arsiv kaynaklarinda Türkiye - Afrika.
New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 21 cm). In English and Turkish. 466 p. This book is an important contribution to kno.ledge of the historical presence and contribution of the Ottoman Empire and of the role of modern Turkey in Africa. The historical role of the Onomans and modern Turkey in contemporary times has been considerably underappreciated in current scholarship. Gencoglu's book, Turkey-Africa, drawing on the wealth of information in the Turkish Archi-ves is among the first that begins to redress this balance. Not onl. does it indicate a 500-year history and presence in Africa, but also the wealth of information that will throw ne. light on major events affecring the African continent from batt-lefields to diplornacy and from national liberation struggles to current debates about development from a Global South perspective. It is a welcome addition that I hope will encourage scholarship on the Turkey-.Africa relationship. (Prof. Dr. Shahid Vawda University of Cape Town).

The Turkish war medal. Gallipoli Medal - Eiserner Halbmond.= Harp madalyasi. Çanakkale madalyasi.
New English Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English and Turkish. 111, [61] p., color and b/w ills. The Turkish war medal. Gallipoli Medal - Eiserner Halbmond.= Harp madalyasi. Çanakkale madalyasi. Often and incorrectly referred to as the 'Gallipoli Star' or 'Iron Half-Moon', my interest in the Harp Madalyasi (War Medal) , started a few years ago and I was immediately confronted with a myriad of unanswered questions due to the general lack of substantiated information on the subject. Luckily, I befriended other collectors interested in this award and eventually met the author in one of these online forums. First, let me say, that a printed reference on this subject was long overdue and I could not think of a better, more knowledgeable person, to bring this subject to light. The book briefly discusses the history of the Ottoman Empire and how it's military awards came into being, along with the European influence on design and purpose that led to the establishment of the War Medal. Various battles and campaigns are mentioned and examples of the various clasps often encountered on the War Medal ribbon are also shown. One of the book's highlights centers around the award regulations and amendments that applied, which are shown in great detail and reprinted with full translations. This is something many references overlook and often the collector has to rely on hearsay or other collector opinions, which often lead to confusion or erroneous statements as facts.

HÜLYA BILGI, TURGUT SANER, SEBNEM ERYAVUZ.
Motif from the Sadberk Hanim Museum Collection.= Sadberk Hanim Müzesi Koleksiyonu'ndan motif. [Exhibition catalogue]. 9 November 2020 - 31 October 2021, Sadberk Hanim Museum.
New English Original cloth bdg. Folio. (32 x 25 cm). In English and Turkish. 474 p., color and b/w ills. In 2020, its 40th anniversary, Sadberk Hanim Museum is justly proud of its position as Turkey's first private museum and aware of the responsibility that this entails. This significant anniversary is being celebrated by an inspiring exhibition and accompanying catalogue. The exhibition and publication project in this instance does not present a specific group of objects in the museum collections. Under the title 'Motif,' the panoramic diversity of every category is represented by bringing together historical motifs from different cultures that have encountered one another in very different regions. Up till now all of the museum's exhibitions have focused on strong aspects of the museum's collections. However, our anniversary project links objects together through their motifs, displaying the exceptional range of our relatively small yet outstanding museum. Motifs are the mainstays of works of art. The motifs of a novel, a story, a symphony or a folksong carry the work forward and bring it to life. The Latin word motivus encompasses several meanings: to set in motion, movement and flow. This project displays the historical depth, flow and cultural movement of the beautiful motifs on works of art in Sadberk Hanim Museum, both in the Archaeological Section and the Turkish-Islamic Section. In antiquity spinning motifs were used on coins that passed from hand to hand, while lamps illuminated cornucopias, vine branches and bunches of grapes that represented abundance and fertility. Garlands and acanthus motifs were introduced to Ottoman art. The rose (rh?don) featured on the coins of ancient Rhodes still conveys meaningful messages to us. Legendary creatures instilled fear but also gave protection; human figures on coins represented gods and rulers. The ancient lotus and palmette motif was applied to tile decoration by Ottoman artists. Motifs travelled back and forth along the caravan roads; much as today, for example, they wander the world on our clothes and bags. In the past motifs were passed down from master to apprentice and from older to younger generations, while now they gain new identities in the creative hands of designers. Our aim is to increase knowledge, arouse curiosity and share the beauty of 466 selected objects from the Sadberk Hanim Museum collection. These artefacts, each with a powerfully expressive aesthetic, represent nearly 500 motifs. Looking at these it becomes clear how closely connected Turkey is to both East and West, with Anatolia at its centre. The motifs have been divided into five main concepts, arranged from the general to the specific: Perception of the world and the universe ("Life and Power"); scenes of nature and the world of plants ("Nature"); images of human beings and animals in art ("Figurative Decoration"); expression in art of the principles governing a large and majestic system ("Order and Harmony"); and the ways in which people shape their surroundings ("Space"). One of the most important achievements of the project has been to give visibility to hundreds of motifs that might ordinarily escape attention. We invite visitors of every age and every occupation to establish an intellectual tie with what these historical motifs have to tell, and present a new visual palette and opportunity for intellectual exercise in relation to the world of art and forms. We developed this project in order to share the story of motifs with both art history and contemporary art circles, and to set the scene for a fresh look at many subjects, such as "rules, inspiration and evocation in creativity". Drawing attention to the possibilities of combining motifs with the visuality of the digital age and to the perfection found in antique works of art and handcrafts has been among our aims.

The logbook of the Ottoman navy: Ships, legends, sailors.= Osmanli donanmasinin seyir defteri: Gemiler, efsaneler, denizciler.
New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 229 p., color and b/w ills. The logbook of the Ottoman navy: Ships, legends, sailors.= Osmanli donanmasinin seyir defteri: Gemiler, efsaneler, denizciler. Ottoman Principality was introduced to the dark sea of the Middle Ages early in the 14 th century. The battles with the Venetians and the Genoese, conquests in Rumelia, and the establishment of the first shipyards all occurred during this period. As the conquest of Istanbul marked the end of the period of transition from Principality to Empire, the foundations of a strong navy that would unite the Mediterranean and the Black Sea over a political geography were laid. The power of the corsairs diminished by the end of the Renaissance; Barbaros Hayreddîn Pasha personified the golden age of Ottoman sea power. The discovery of the New World had instigated a revolution in the maritime world. Traditional Venetian galleys gave way to Spanish galleons and manpower was replaced by wind power. The Ottoman navy assumed a pioneering role in the process of modernization that extended from the 18 th to the 20 th century. Naval education in the Western sense, the implementation of new technologies and the organization of a modern fleet were all consequences of this period. Advancing from the galley to the battlecruiser, Ottoman sea power had the final say in the affairs of the Empire. "The Logbook of the Ottoman Navy: Ships, Legends, Sailors" exhibition intertwines three distinct, yet integrated mythologies of the sea. The imprint of the ships in Ottoman seafaring history, the battles they were engaged in and the heroes who became legendary in these battles assume their places on the stage of civilization in all their historic magnitude. At the center of the construct lies the extraordinary adventure of the transition from traditional to modern seafaring methods. The quest for power, the demolished thrones and man's identification of his fate with the sea is perhaps the oldest story behind this adventure. The cornerstones of a long history that extends from the legacy of a 16 th century Ottoman galley to the battlecruiser, Yavuz, is brought to light through the memories of seamen.

ANTUN VRANCIC, (1504-1573).
The Istanbul letters of Antun Vrancic: Croatian and English translation of selected Latin letters.= Carigradska pisma Antuna Vrancica: Hrvatski i Engleski prijevod odabranih Latinskih pisama. Prep. by Oguz Aydemir.
New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. Folio. (31 x 25 cm). In English and Croatian. 171 p., color and b/w ills. The Istanbul letters of Antun Vrancic: Croatian and English translation of selected latin letters.= Carigradska pisma Antuna Vrancica: Hrvatski i Engleski prijevod odabranih Latinskih pisama. Prep. by Oguz Aydemir. Antun Vrancic or Antonio Veranzio, was a Croatian prelate, writer, diplomat and Archbishop of Esztergom in the 16th century. Antun Vrancic was from Dalmatian town of Sibenik (modern Croatia), then part of the Republic of Venice. Vrancic is also known under his Latinized name Antonius Verantius, while Hungarian documents since the 19th century refer to him as Verancsics Antal. In 1549, Vrancic entered Ferdinand's service. In parallel to his diplomatic duties, he held important positions in Catholic Church (the chief dean of Szabolcs County, abbot of Pornó Abbey). In 1553 he was appointed as a bishop of Pécs and sent to Constantinople to conduct negotiations with sultan Suleyman I on Ferdinand's behalf. That mission was previously declined by many other diplomats as an earlier negotiator was imprisoned by the Ottomans. Vrancic spent four years in Asia minor and finally concluded a peace treaty. After his return he was appointed bishop of Eger (17 July 1560 - 25 September 1570). After the Battle of Szigetvár in 1566, as one of Maximilian's ambassadors, Antun was sent to Turkey to negotiate peace again; he arrived in Constantinople on 26 August 1567. After five months of negotiations with Sokollu Mehmed Pasha and Selim II, agreement was reached by 17 February, and the Treaty of Adrianople was signed on 21 February 1568, ending the war between the Holy Roman Empire and Ottoman Empire. In appreciation of his diplomatic work, the king named him archbishop of Esztergom (17 October 1569 - 15 June 1573). During his stay in Istanbul, together with Ogier Ghislain de Busbecq, Vrancic discovered Res Gestae Divi Augusti (Eng. The Deeds of the Divine Augustus), a Roman monument in Ankara. His travels throughout the Transylvania, Balkan and Asia minor resulted in his writing extensive travel accounts. By writing letters to the Habsburg Kingdom almost every day, the diplomat telling the daily life of Istanbul gave examples of his culture and art works. Letters written 450 years ago provide important information about the diplomatic tradition of the 16th century and the behavior of the two emperors.

SEDAD HAKKI ELDEM, (1908-1988).
[RELIEFS OF ELDEM] Rölöve. 2 volumes set. Vol. 1: Istanbul Bogaziçi köyleri yerlesmesi, resmî kültürel tas binalar, Istanbul ve Anadolu evleri, çesmeler ve selsebiller. Vol. 2: Birgi Çagir Aga Konagi.
Very Good Turkish Paperback. Folio. (34 x 24 cm). In Turkish. 2 volumes set: (70 p.; 64 p.). Eldem was a Turkish architect and one of the pioneers of nationalized modern architecture in Turkey. He was born in Istanbul (1908). He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (Department of Architecture). Between 1931 and 1932 he traveled to France, England, and Germany with a scholarship from the academy. In 1932 he opened his own office, also started teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts, and continued until retirement in 1978. In 1934 he worked for the National Architecture Seminar in Turkey which was a complete disaster for him because of the discussions between modern architecture and traditional architecture. In 1938 he designed the Turkish Pavilion in New York Exhibition. Sedad Hakki Eldem represented the Turkish Republic at the International Union of Architects in Lozan (1948) after Second World War. Also in the same year, Sedad Hakki worked with his colleague Emin Onat on the project of Istanbul Palace of Justice. He worked on proportions and architectural organizations of Ottoman domestic houses, 18th and 19th-century palaces, and mansions. He was known as a role model and pioneer to reinterpret the Classical Ottoman Patterns in modern architecture. He was a part of the Former Artifacts Maintain Council (Eski Eserleri Muhafaza Encümeni) between 1941 and 1945 and also a part of the Supreme Council of Antiquities and Monument Real Estate (Gayrimenkul Eski Eserler ve Anitlar Yüksek Kurulu) between 1962 and 1978. His thought was about nationalizing Modern Architecture. He basically thought that International Style in architecture should not be applied everywhere. Some things should be changed in the design by considering the national and domestic texture. He has won the international Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1986 with the project of Zeyrek Social Security Facilities. Sedad Hakki Eldem's architecture has basically 4 main periods. The first of them, between 1928 and 1934, is known for the instability of his work. After that, the second period is popular with modern trials on Ottoman architectural organization. The time frame of this period spans from 1934 until 1952. The third period of his architecture has lost its Ottoman influence, it looks more modernized between 1952 and 1962. The last part of Eldem's Architecture known for his double approach to projects. This final period started in 1962 and lasted until his death in 1988. (Wikipedia).

HÜSEYIN RACI EFENDI (Mufti of Stara Zagora), (?-1902).
[ACCOUNT OF THE STARA ZAGORA EVENTS] Târîhçe-i vak'a-yi Zaghra. [i.e. History of the events in Stara Zagora].
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (23 x 16 cm). In Ottoman script. 185 p. Some stains on cover and interior. Pages are very clean. Faded on margins slightly. Otherwise a good and clean copy in its original wrappers. The work, which could not be published due to the war despite the necessary permission to be published while its author was alive, was admired by those who read it before it was published, and some copies were sent to well-known authors and intellectuals of the period such as Nâmik Kemal and Recâizâde Ekrem and were appreciated by them. Completed by Râci Efendi in 1897 and published by Necmi Râci who was his son artillery major after Raci Efendi's death as a posthumous edition, the work consists of three sections under the titles "History-i Vak'a-i Zagra" [i.e. History of the events in Stara Zagora], "Hercümerc-i Kit'a-i Rumeli" [i.e. Chaos in the Rumelia Army] and "Hicretnâme" [i.e. The book of migration]. The first part, with a short introduction by Necmi Râci and the author at the beginning, was written in a style of "memoirs" and begins with the entry of the Russians into the Ottoman lands by crossing the Danube River on 21 June 1877; The news of the invasion reaching the Old Zagra, the anxious waiting here, the persecution of the Bulgarians during the Russian invasion, the rescue of the town by the Ottoman army under the rule of Süleyman Pasha, and it ends with the depiction of the immigration and the disasters that took place with a short account of Stara Zagora and environs. The first part of the second chapter summarizes the military operation on the Rumelia front during the Ninety-Three War [i.e. '93 Harbi - Russko-Turetskaya voyna 1877-1878 - Russo-Turco War 1877-78], and the mistakes made during this time and what they cost are explained. The events that took place since the beginning of January 1878, when the Russians occupied Zagra and the surrounding towns for the second time, the situation of the Muslims and the sad scenes of the second migration are described, and parts of the articles of foreign journalists who saw this disaster are also quoted. Huseyin Râci Efendi was a müfti (clergyman) in Stara Zagora during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. (Source: Islam Ansiklopedisi). This war was a conflict between the Ottoman Empire and the Eastern Orthodox coalition led by the Russian Empire and composed of Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro. Fought in the Balkans and in the Caucasus, it originated in emerging 19th-century Balkan nationalism. Additional factors included Russian goals of recovering territorial losses endured during the Crimean War of 1853-56, re-establishing itself in the Black Sea, and supporting the political movement attempting to free Balkan nations from the Ottoman Empire. The Russian-led coalition won the war, pushing the Turks back all the way to the gates of Constantinople but for the timely intervention of the western European great powers. (Wikipedia). Roumi 1326 = Gregorian 1910. Özege 19975. Extremely rare.

Robenson Kruzoe Hali adada. Translated by Halil Hamid (Besiktas Osmanli Fakîr Çocuklar Mektebi Muallim-i Sânîsi).
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Paperback. Foolscap 8vo. (19 x 12 cm). In Ottoman script. 16 p. Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe (1719) has been attracting the attention of many critics and scholars both in the West and in Turkey for years. Robinson Crusoe was originally written in English, and published on April 25, 1719, and its title was in fact quite long. Robinson Crusoe is among the novels which are argued to be the first English novel. The book has obtained worldwide fame, and there are hundreds of translations and adaptations. Probably due to the success of the first novel, Defoe wrote the second book which is entitled The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe. (Sources: THE SHAPING ROLE OF RETRANSLATIONS IN TURKEY: THE CASE OF ROBINSON CRUSOE, Asli Emekçi.; OSMANLICADA ROBENSON, Ayse Banu Karadag). This is an abridged translation into Ottoman Turkish. [FIRST UNABRIDGED OTTOMAN / TURKISH TRANSLATION OF ROBENSON CRUSOE MADE FROM ENGLISH ORIGINAL DIRECTLY] Robenson Kruzoe. Translated by Sükrü Kaya, (1883-1959).
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Paperback. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In Ottoman script. 439 p. First Edition, thus. This first Turkish translation of Robinson Crusoe made by Sükrü Kaya is produced while the translator was in exile in Malta. With the help of Michael Seidel's argument, for instance, Kaya's translation might be regarded not only as a translation made in the circumstances of exile but also as a translation of what Seidel calls an "exile narrative". This might be the only reason why Kaya decided to translate this novel. It is highly probable that he was feeling depressed and lonely; therefore, he chose to translate the story of a lonely man like himself. Indeed, Kaya declares in the translator's preface to Robinson Crusoe that the activity of translation to an extent made him forget the pain of captivity [= Tercüme mesguliyeti bana esaretin acilarini kismen unutturuyordu]. The first Turkish translation of this novel was made by Ahmed Lutfî and published by Takvimhâne-i Âmire as early as 1864. It was an abridged translation, and an unabridged translation was not made until 1919 when Sükrü Kaya was in exile in Malta. This unabridged translation made by Kaya was published by Tanin Printing House in Istanbul in 1923, and it belonged to -The Collection of Immortal Works- [Ölmez Eserler Külliyati]. Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph poem signed by Halide Nusret Zorlutuna. 23,521 cm. In Ottoman script. 17 lines. Some corrections. 1 p.
