Green cloth cover with gilt is rubbed at corners and spine caps with a tiny abrasion to fore edge of front board otherwise clean bright and in very good condition. Boards and spine are straight. Binding is tight. End sheets and paste downs foxed and toned. A small bookworm hole in the bottom corner of a few pages. Faint 1 1/2" damp stain on bottom corner of pages. Pages are otherwise clean and very good. Publisher's advertisements laid-in including Fall 1911 booklet and a color illustrated bookmark. Dust jacket is heavily toned soiled and tattered and chipped. Original 1911 dustwrapper. Maurice Henry Hewlett 1861 1923 was an English historical novelist poet and essayist. He was educated at the London International College Spring Grove Isleworth and was called to the bar in 1891. He gave up the law after the success of Forest Lovers. From 1896 to 1901 he was Keeper of Lands Revenues Records and Enrolments a government post as adviser on matters of medieval law. He settled at Broad Chalke in Wiltshire. His friends included Evelyn Underhill and Ezra Pound whom he met at the Poet's Club in London. In a full cloth binding with gilt lettering and held in an unclipped dustwrapper. Externally smart with some very light wear to the extremities. Dustwrapper is worn. Chipping to the head and tail of the spine and also to the extremities.
