In original cloth-backed illustrated boards with stains chips and wear three green cloth ties present but worn. Some light scuffs to plates corner of plate 8 is chipped lower left. Plate 36 missing.<br/><br/> Beautiful arrangements of flowers leaves vines and grasses printed in unusual colors. Chrysanthemums begonias poppies ferns and many more flowers are depicted. The floral designs include ornamental friezes carpets among other creative designs. The dossier is attributed to Verneuil in pencil but no date or name printed on the folio. Maurice Pillard Verneuil 1869-1942 was a designer who is known for his influential textile book on the subject of Art Deco design; 'Etoffes et Tapis Etrangers' which was produced for the Paris Art Deco exhibition in 1925. She was the second wife from 1918 to 1926 of the writer Louis-Ferdinand Celine. The pochoir stenciling process characterized by its crisp lines and brilliant colors produces images that have a freshly printed or wet appearance. A number of these images are on the erotic side which was typical of those not devoted to fashion. This was near the end of the art deco era. Bound in full brown morocco raised bands with compartments lettered and decorated in gilt silK endpapers with the original paper wrappers bound in upper joint cracked but not through binding tiny worm hole with old tape mends. Color plates are beautiful and with tissue guards for protection. Marti-Dupuis unknown books

One caricature per page for a total of 366 caricatures one per day plus an introductory illustration each in color almost all accompanied by a few lines of light verse. The caricatures are of the famous of the day from all walks of life -- theater politics the military literature and graphic arts high society commerce etc. -- and a few of an earlier time Alfred de Musset Cyrano du Bergerac Jesus not all of whom were French. The non-Gallic caricatures include people such as Andrew Carnegie John Jacob Astor Rockefeller and Paderewski. A few of the drawings are of fictional characters -- debatably this might include Cyrano or Biblical characters such as Methusaleh and then some non-human characters such as Chanticler. Altogether it is a smorgasbord feast of colorful absurdist portraiture that can probably only be fully absorbed over many days. Contributors include among the artists Rip Sem Hemard Mich Poulbot etc. -- a who's who of French comic illustrators of the day in other words some of whom are themselves depicted in the illustrations -- with the verses and captions by Jean Bastia Numa Bles Dominique Bonnaud etc. Spine on top and opens verticallly or in typical calendar style with the first half of the year represented on one side of the leaves and then the book is flipped to reveal the second half on the verso of the leaves. London: Proceedings of the Royal Society A volume 195 pp. 62-81 1948 Abstract: The Newtonian definition of the mass-centre can be generalized to the restricted theory of relativity in several ways. Three in particular lead to fairly simple expressions in terms of instantaneous variables for quite general systems. Of these only one is independent of the frame in which it is defined. It suffers from the disadvantage that its components do not commute in classical mechanics do not have zero Poisson brackets and are therefore unsuitable as generalized co-ordinates in mechanics. Of the other two one is particularly simply defined and the other has commuting co-ordinates. The Poisson brackets can be derived from quite general considerations because the various mass-centres are expressible in terms of integrals of the energy-momentum tensor which are directly connected with the infinitesimal operators of the group of Lorentz transformations. The definitions are readily applicable to a single particle in theories such as are current for elementary particles where a co-ordinate observable does not exist but an energy-momentum tensor does and furnish the nearest approach possible to such observables. They are applied to electrons particles of spin 0 and scalar- and vector-meson theories and to photons. Pryce was a British physicist part of the Admiralty Signals Establishment team which developed radar in WWII. He headed the physics department at the University of Bristol from 1954 to 1964 and was a Fellow of the Royal Society Royal Astronomical Society Physical Society and Cambridge Philosophical Society. One horizontal fold at bottom of self portrait.<br/><br/>The artist depicts himself looking and smiling at the viewer in his "Where the Wild Things Are" inimitable style. <br/><br/>The artist-illustrator's hat recalls Tenniel's sketch of the Mad Hatter in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. An exhuberant Sendak has written "Fun! Ha! Ha!" and "Ho! He!" <br/><br/>Based upon other pieces by Sendak his use of "Ha! Ha!" may echo his elation after the enormous success of "Where the Wild Things Are."<br/><br/>This piece is Much Rarer than Sendak's famous and highly regarded book illustrations!<br/><br/>Maurice Bernard Sendak 1928 - 2012 was an American illustrator and writer of children's books. He became widely known for his book Where the Wild Things Are first published in 1963. Born to Jewish-Polish parents his childhood was affected by the death of many of his family members during the Holocaust. Sendak also wrote works such as In the Night Kitchen Outside Over There and illustrated many works by other authors including the Little Bear books by Else Holmelund Minarik.<br/><br/>He won practically every award for illustrating children's books; most notably: the Caldecott Medal from the ALA as illustrator of "the most distinguished American picture book for children" Where the Wild Things Are 1964 Sendak was also one of the Caldecott runners-up seven times from 1954 to 1982 more than any other illustrator. Paris France: Plon-Nourrit 1926. Book. Very good- condition. Paperback. Signed by Authors. First French edition. Octavo 8vo. vi 397 pages of text including table. Paperback binding; original blue printed paper wrappers with numerous small creases and tears and extremities and a few tiny chips at top of spine; protected in custom stiff archival mylar and further protected by a custom made gray and navy linen clam-shell box with printed spine label. Measues 20 cm in height. Illustrated with a historic photograph of Ashford as a girl and a facsimile of the first page of the original manuscript. Pages 133-221 contain the French translation of "The young visitors" which Ashford wrote at age 9; it was first published in 1919. This edition with an introduction by Cocteau and translated by Maurice Sachs who was Cocteau's secretary at the time. Sachs has inscribed and signed the book on the half-title page in the year of publication. Sachs was a black marketeer anti-semitic collaborateur went to Germany 1943 to work with Gestapo arrested and shot 1945.
