The taller eastern mound contains eighteen levels of Neolithic occupation between 7400 bc and 6200 bc, including wall paintings, reliefs, sculptures and other symbolic and artistic features. Together they testify to the evolution of social organization and cultural practices as humans adapted to a sedentary life. The western mound shows the evolution of cultural practices in the Chalcolithic period, from 6200 bc to 5200 bc. Çatalhöyük provides important evidence of the transition from settled villages to urban agglomeration, which was maintained in the same location for over 2,000 years. It features a unique streetless settlement of houses clustered back to back with roof access into the buildings.

In order to produce these maps covering Turkish territory, Reconnaissance Branch was incorporated into The Mapping Commission. The maps were produced in the datum based on the latitude and longitude of Ayasofya Mosque in equal area Bonn Projection. The field works for the 123 sheets covering the country were conducted by 76 staff. The production was completed in 18 years starting from east west. Field works continued without stopping except in years 1914 and 1920. This map series called also reconnaissance maps contributed a lot to producing 1:25.000 scale maps. Subasi is cartographer of this map according to Türkezer - Cobanoglu: History of Mapping in Turkey-1:200.000 Scale Maps.

Shows Krasnodar, Maikop, Yeysk, Anapa and shores of Black Sea. At northeast, map shows Kuban river (Kuban nehri) and its basin in Circassia (Republic of Adygea). Maykop is the capital city of the Republic of Adygea in Russia, located on the right bank of the Belaya River (a tributary of the Kuban River). Yekaterinodar (Krasnodar) at north of map, near to Maykop. From northwest to south east, map shows Black Sea shores of the extensive area with interesting details in Ottoman Turkish script. Also shown Belaya, Chokhrak and Dakh Rivers in addition all south land of Krasnodar Krai of the Northwestern Caucasus until southern Georgian borders and Georgia. Almost all toponyms are in Ottoman Turkish.

Ekrem Hakki Ayverdi was raised at a time in which Istanbul was undergoing its late Ottoman-early Republican period. Apart from his persona as an engineer-architect, restorer, and architectural historian, he was a collector passionately dedicated to Ottoman art. Undertaking the construction of different public buildings in Istanbul, Bursa and Edirne, as well as the restoration of many architectural works, Ayverdi not only brought together the most select and refined works of Ottoman art, which had begun to lose its prestige amidst the changing values of high culture in the time he lived, but he also paid particular attention to their conservation and preservation. Ayverdi's two seminal corpuses that study Ottoman architecture from its early days until the end of the Mehmed II era, as well as its examples in Roumelia, continue to maintain their place as the most important reference books for those working in this field. This is a detailed research on a 19th century map of Istanbul city.

Shows Southeastern parts of Asia Minor and Syria; Siverek, Sard (Iraq) and Ras Al-Ayn (Rasulayn - Resualyn) in Syria. Hegira: 1333 = Gregorian: 1917. Not description on map-maker. Scale: 1: 200.000. This is one the serie of the Bonn projection maps which are the first map series in modern techniques in Turkey and the Ottoman Empire. In order to produce these maps covering Turkish territory, Reconnaissance Branch was incorporated into The Mapping Commission. The maps were produced in the datum based on the latitude and longitude of Ayasofya Mosque in equal area Bonn Projection. The field works for the 123 sheets covering the country were conducted by 76 staff. The production was completed in 18 years starting from east west. Field works continued without stopping except in years 1914 and 1920. This map series called also reconnaissance maps contributed a lot to producing 1:25.000 scale maps. According to Türkezer & Çobanoglu: History of Mapping in Turkey-1:200.000 Scale Maps, last cartographer of Diyarbakir regio is M. Sait Malatyali. No his biographic material and info in 'Savaslarda Haritacilar'. Rare.

[Collection of autograph letters, concert programs and other material of a German / Turkish violinist and her family].
Very Good German Original autograph letters signed, concert programs and one ticket of Bruno Walter and Jose Iturbi in 23 September 1932 by Anita Tiedcke, letters by and to Anita Tiedcke, Muhiddin Erel and Suna and Sevim Erels. Includes 54 concert programs, booklets and leaflets which some of them are handwritten, typewritten and mostly original prints. Some programs contains Anita Tiedcke's violin parts, early ones in Berlin (1930s), and later period ones in Istanbul. Especially typescript Istanbul programs (such as Aysegül Sarica's ones) are extremely rare and very important collection on Turkish history of classical music. One special designed hand written and drawn concert program titled "In Mozart Reich - Weihnachts Konzert gespielt von Nannerl u. Wolfgang Mozart. 24 autograph letters from and to all family members. Letters belong to Anita Tiedcke, are especially important for which include legal correspondences about Anita Tiedcke's conversion to Islam with her musician identity and musical history. Anita Tiedcke changed her name as 'Emine Erel' after conversion to Islam and marriage. Suna and Sevim Erels' letters also talk about music mostly. They are written in German usually, but some of them are in Turkish. Also the collection contains some book lists, catalogues. Anita Tiedcke completed her musical education at the Conservatory of Hamburg with the violonist Erika Besserer. After her marriage to Muhiddin Erel, she continued her musical studies in Istanbul and worked as an instructor at the Municipal Conservatory. In 1945, she was appointed as the mayor of the Istanbul Municipal Symphony Orchestra. The couple had two daughters, Suna and Sevin. Suna Erel was not content with the conservatory, but she also graduated from the Münch Hochschule für Musik Academy. Professor Suna Erel, who worked at Mimar Sinan University for many years, retired 8 years ago. For his achievements, the German government awarded Suna Erel the Beethoven medal. Muhiddin Erel was a Turkish professor and doctor. He was the founder of Ege University Medicine Faculty in 1955. Extremely rare and fine collection.

New Turkish Paperback. Demy 8vo. (22 x 15 cm). In Turkish. 174 p., ills. Dünya haritasi ve cografya risalesi. Haci Ahmet was a purported Muslim cartographer linked to a 16th-century map of the world. Ahmet appended a commentary to the map, outlining his own life and an explanation for the creation of the map. But it is not clear whether Ahmet created the map, or whether he simply translated it into Turkish for use in the Ottoman world. Haci Ahmet appended a lengthy commentary to a 16th-century map of the world annotated in the Turkish language, known as The Ottoman Mappa Mundi of Haci Ahmet, amongst other titles, which opens with "Whoever wishes to know the true shape of the world, their minds shall be filled with light and their breast with joy.". The map is heart shaped, otherwise known as a "cordiform projection," a style that was popular in sixteenth century Europe, and the extant copy was printed from wooden blocks in Venice, Italy, in 1559. It was kept until the late 18th century in the archives of the Venetian Council of Ten. The map is now part of the Heritage Library in the Qatar National Library. Known as the "Mappamondo Haci Ahmet", the map outlines legends and place-names in Turkish, and it may be the first map in Turkish ever published for sale to an Ottoman audience. Whether the map is original, or was simply a translation into Turkish, it helps show how the people of the Ottoman Empire perceived themselves in relation to the wider world. Three small spheres appear below the main map at the bottom of the page - the central graphic represents Earth and a number of satellite planets, while the left and right depict constellations. Within the accompanying text of the map, Haci Ahmet explains that the map was created to share knowledge of the shape of the world, especially of the New World. Specifically, Ahmet points out that the classical philosophers, such as Plato and Socrates, did not know about the newly discovered continent, which he says shows that the world is round. He says that the New World demonstrates the "extent to which the Ottomans were participants in their own right in the process of physical expansion abroad and intellectual ferment at home that characterized the period of history commonly referred to as the Age of Exploration". Ahmet also assigns the Ottoman Empire's rulers and kingdoms to the celestial bodies represented in the lower quadrant of the map, a maneuver which has been interpreted as an effort to impose a hierarchical geopolitical system that preferences Ottoman rule above all other world powers. The map is considered unlikely to be original, and was probably translated into Turkish by Ahmet. The map has specific European characteristics, in that it includes the use of Western terms, suggesting Ahmet translated an older map into Turkish. In fact, throughout the map's accompanying text, Ahmet emphasizes translation, stating that he "translated it from the language and alphabet of the Europeans into that of the Muslims". A further argument made against Ahmet's authorship is that the "heart-shaped form of the map had already been used by earlier European cartographers". The map is "heart-shaped" and is constructed by a cordioform projection developed by 16th century cartographers and mathematicians including Johannes Werner (1468-1522), a German mathematician and geographer. The map has been tentatively linked to several other geographers, including Giovanni Battista Ramusio (1485-1557). It has also been argued that it shares similarities with a map by the French cartographer Orontius (1494-1555), published in 1534. Ahmet claimed the map was made for Ottoman princes, and some of the sons of Suleyman the Magnificent were interested in maps of the world and had looked to Venice for their production. This resulted in the development of Ottoman-Venetian relations, which offered "new interpretations of Venetian attitudes to the production of world maps for Ottoman clients".The map's printing in Venice hel

It is an indispensible work that traces the evolution of cartography in these lands. The collection, enriched with maps compiled from the major museums and libraries of England, France, the Netherlands, Russia and the USA, is the largest exhibition of maps of the Turkish lands. THis book is a product of nearly 20 years of work with 265 select maps in large 50 x 70 cm pages. A very heavy volume.

This volume (seventh) of the serie (Allgemeine Geographische Ephemeriden) is rare and map which it includes rare as well. Could not be found any copy of this volume in OCLC.
