The expedition was under the leadership of R. Lockhart Jack; his concerns were primarily geological. White accompanied him in an unofficial capacity and the 'present notes deal mainly with the zoological and botanical objects noticed during the trip'. The party travelled by camel from Oodnadatta to the Everard and Musgrave Ranges from mid-June to the end of August 1914 during a period of prolonged drought. Approximately 29 pages and all of the plates are devoted to the narrative and the local Aborigines who appear in 16 of the plates. This is followed by scientific reports mainly on mammals birds spiders insects and botany. This issue also contains a major contribution by Bronislaw Malinowski: The Natives of Mailu. ‎Première édition de la traduction française du Journal of a voyage to New South Wales, paru en 1790 à Londres (pendant que l'auteur était toujours sur place), avec pas moins de 65 planches d'histoire naturelle, qui ne furent jamais reprises dans les traductions : seule l'édition parisienne de 1796 en comporte deux (mais pas la nôtre, contrairement à ce qu'écrit Sabin).L'ouvrage doit figurer en bonne place dans les collections regroupant des Australiana précoces : chirurgien et naturaliste, JohnWhite (1756-1832), sur lequel on est peu renseigné, exerçait les fonctions de chirurgien naval en chef lorsque les onze navires de la First Fleet appareillèrent en mai 1787 pour aller établir la première colonie européenne (en fait un établissement pénitentiaire) en Nouvelles-Galles-du-Sud. Quand il rejoignit la First Fleet à Plymouth en mars 1787, il constata que les bagnards embarqués avaient vécu pendant un certain temps sur la viande de sel, une mauvaise préparation pour un long voyage. Il réussit à obtenir des ressources de viande et de légumes frais pour eux, et s'arrangea pour qu'ils pussent être autorisés à monter sur le pont à tour de rôle pour avoir de l'air frais. Son traitement humain et sensible a été sans doute la raison pour laquelle le nombre de décès parmi les condamnés pendant le voyage n'a pas été très élevé.Une fois arrivé sur place, il planifia la construction d'un hôpital, mais fut entravé par le manque de fournitures. Il s'intéressa alors à la flore et la faune indigènes de ce continent encore très peu connu et étudia le potentiel des plantes australiennes pour une utilisation en pharmacologie.Mais il ne se plaisait pas en Australie et demanda son rappel en 1792, ce qui lui fut accordé en 1794.Sabin 103 406.
