Women's Cricket
An original glass plate negative 120x160mm featuring a women's cricket team in Broken Hill around 1909 other captioned negatives in the same collection make this a certainty
The team proper is grouped in two rows: five are seated on chairs behind the other six who are sitting on the ground around standing stumps in front of which the middle pair are holding crossed bats. Eight other women stand at the rear while a gentleman possibly the coach stands respectfully to one side. Did I mention the dog - he's there as well! Although the attire looks formal complete with very decorative headwear comparison with other photographs of women cricketers of the period suggests this could well be the uniform . A modern contact print is offered with the negative. unknown

Bennett Draughtsman from data and instructions furnished by the Hon. B.T. Finniss L.Col. V.M.F. Govt. Resident Northern Territory. Showing approximately the tracks of the various explorers of the N.T. and the locality of the gold producing district discovered by Mr F.H. Litchfield in September 1865' 515 595 mm. It contains full details of the nine tenders for the survey of 420000 acres of land in the Northern Territory together with a report on them by George Goyder the Surveyor-General. He saw fit to consider seriously only one of the tenders and his concluding remarks suggest the ultimate course of action: 'it only remains to be considered whether an efficient party organized and equipped by the Government and the additional information gained thereby would not be infinitely preferable to the bare local description of the country actually operated on by the contractors'. The very detailed map may be seen as a monument to Bennett who returned with Goyder's party only to meet his death by spearing on 29 May 1869. Government Printer unknown

Quarterly Report on Northern Territory four consecutively issued reports
Adelaide: Government Printer 1883. First Edition. Hardcover. Adelaide Government Printer 1883 1883 1883 and 1884. Foolscap folio four reports 3 4 2 and 3 pages. Bound together in recent cloth with titling on the front cover; a tiny tear to the top edge throughout with the top margin of the first page slightly discoloured; excellent copies. South Australian Parliamentary Papers Number 53 53A 54 and 54A of 1883-84; only 670 copies of each of the last three reports were published. Although these reports are numbered consecutively the periods covered are the last quarter of 1882 and the last three quarters of 1883; there is no report for the first quarter of 1883 probably because of the departure of the long-serving Government Resident Edward Price in that period. The usual pastoral mining and agricultural reports are enlivened in the last paper by Acting Government Resident Gilbert McMinn's detailed account of his success in finding Stuart's marked tree at his last camp near the mouth of the Mary River. This discovery removed 'the last shadow of doubt in connection with the great explorer's achievement' brought on by Stuart's mistaken belief that he was following the Adelaide River. Australia 1947
An original photograph 140x160mm mounted on a detached autograph album leaf 165x195mm captioned in pencil '1st Test Team for Australia at Brisbane. Dec 1947'. The match was against India on 28-29 November and 1-4 December 1947; it was India's first tour of Australia. The team comprised Bradman Captain Brown Hamence 12th man Hassett Ian Johnson Bill Johnston Lindwall McCool Miller Morris Tallon and Toshack; the Manager is also in the group portrait
'The late withdrawal of key Indian players . greatly weakened its side. The strength of Australian cricket at this time further unbalanced the contest resulting in a 4-0 thrashing in the series' Webster. This is hardly surprising considering that ALL of the Australians in this particular team went on the 1948 Invincibles tour. A newspaper cartoon relating to the match is mounted on the verso of the leaf; apart from a little cockling due to an excess of paste the photograph is in fine condition. unknown
