In folio (46x25 cm); esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Prima edizione di questa bella carta del centro Italia con fine coloritura coeva che descrive i territori della Toscana, dell'Umbria, delle Marche, del Lazio, della Campania ed una parte della capitanata. Edward Wells, il cartografo che realizzò la stampa, era un sacerdote della Chiesa d'Inghilterra e sostenitore dell'istruzione. Durante la sua vita pubblicò numerose carte, tra cui diversi atlanti del mondo antico e contemporaneo. Wells era figlio di un vicario ed entrò alla Christ Church di Oxford alla fine del 1686. Si laureò nel 1690 e lavorò come tutore nel suo college dal 1691 al 1702. Quindi, si spostò a Cotesbach, nel Leicestershire, da dove continuò a pubblicare i suoi lavori. Dal 1698 in poi, Wells compilò molti sermoni, diversi libri ed alcunbi atlanti. Tradusse anche testi classici e cristiani, aggiungendo talvolta annotazioni geografiche. Le sue “geografie descrittive” non erano opere eccessivamente originali, ma furono molto popolari al suo tempo per la bellezza ed eleganza del tratto. Nel 1701 pubblicò un Trattato di geografia antica e moderna che riscosse un notevole successo e che vide quattro edizioni successive. A quest'opera, seguì una Geografia storica del Nuovo Testamento pubblicata nel 1708, accompagnata da una Geografia storica dell'Antico Testamento edita tra il 1711 ed il 1712. Opera in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione.

Rarissima carta geografica, due carte stampate al verso e al recto del foglio, tratte dal "Delitiae Italiae et index viatorius, indicans itinera ab urbe Roma ad omnes in Italia". Cyprian Eichovius è lo pseudonimo di Matthias Quad (Deventer 1557 - Colonia 1613). Come spesso succedeva all'epoca per sfuggire alle persecuzioni cattoliche contro i protestanti Matthias Quad usò per la sua attività diversi pseudoni¬mi, tra cui quelli noti di C. Eichovius, M. Quadus, M. Quad von Kinckelbach e quello di Konrad Loew. Fuggito dall'Olanda in Germania nel 1587, studiò ad Heidelberg e divenne poi uno dei più prolifici esponenti della cosiddetta Scuola Cartografica di Colonia, durata per circa mezzo secolo (1570-1620 ca.) e formata principalmente da rifugiati fiamminghi ed olandesi tra i quali spiccano lo stesso Quad e Frans Hogenberg che ne fu il fondatore. Nel 1594 Quad pub¬blica a Colonia Europae, totius terrarum orbis partis praestantissimae descriptio. Nel 1596 ca., sempre a Colonia pubblica Typus Orbis Terrarum, ad Imitationem Universalis Gerhardi Mercatoris, un planisfero sulla base dell'opera marcatoria-na e nel 1600 pubblica il suo primo atlante mondiale autonomo: Geographisch Handtbuch, che è anche il primo edito in lingua tedesca. Nel 1608 ne uscì una edizione in latino Fasciculus Geographicus con quattro mappe inedite incise da Johann Bussemacher, suo assiduo collaboratore A causa dei suoi numerosi pseudonimi la sua vasta produzione editoriale rimane ancora da identificare completamente. Le carte del Quad ebbero poca fortuna poiché stampate nel periodo dei grandi successi degli atlanti Orteliani; pertanto nessuna ristampa dell’atlante è nota, rendendolo rarissimo e molto ricercato nel mercato antiquario. Rarissima carta geografica, due carte stampate al verso e al recto del foglio, tratte dal "elitiae Italiae et index viatorius, indicans itinera ab urbe Roma ad omnes in Italia". Cyprian Eichovius è lo pseudonimo di Matthias Quad (Deventer 1557 - Colonia 1613). Come spesso succedeva all'epoca per sfuggire alle persecuzioni cattoliche contro i protestanti Matthias Quad usò per la sua attività diversi pseudoni¬mi, tra cui quelli noti di C. Eichovius, M. Quadus, M. Quad von Kinckelbach e quello di Konrad Loew. Fuggito dall'Olanda in Germania nel 1587, studiò ad Heidelberg e divenne poi uno dei più prolifici esponenti della cosiddetta Scuola Cartografica di Colonia, durata per circa mezzo secolo (1570-1620 ca.) e formata principalmente da rifugiati fiamminghi ed olandesi tra i quali spiccano lo stesso Quad e Frans Hogenberg che ne fu il fondatore. Nel 1594 Quad pub¬blica a Colonia Europae, totius terrarum orbis partis praestantissimae descriptio. Nel 1596 ca., sempre a Colonia pubblica Typus Orbis Terrarum, ad Imitationem Universalis Gerhardi Mercatoris, un planisfero sulla base dell'opera marcatoria-na e nel 1600 pubblica il suo primo atlante mondiale autonomo: Geographisch Handtbuch, che è anche il primo edito in lingua tedesca. Nel 1608 ne uscì una edizione in latino Fasciculus Geographicus con quattro mappe inedite incise da Johann Bussemacher, suo assiduo collaboratore. A causa dei suoi numerosi pseudonimi la sua vasta produzione editoriale rimane ancora da identificare completamente. Le carte del Quad ebbero poca fortuna poiché stampate nel periodo dei grandi successi degli atlanti Orteliani; pertanto nessuna ristampa dell’atlante è nota, rendendolo rarissimo e molto ricercato nel mercato antiquario.
