Three central leaves with mellowed vertical creases and a 1/2-inch closed tear to the fore edge else near fine. In the unprinted dust jacket: a bit age-toned. From a manuscript donated to the Bancroft Library in 1969 an important document from the latter days of covered-wagon emigration when the trail had become a road. Iowa schoolteacher Brown caught "Pike's Peak Fever" and conscientiously recorded each day's events along the route. Chase's sketches were made two years later. <p>The publisher's plain dust jacket is now preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve. Book Club of California hardcover
