<p><em>Extremadamente rara y temprana obra sobre la vida de Solano misionero en el Rio de la Plata Cordoba del Tucuman y el Chaco</em>. 1643. Marid. Emprenta Real. In 4to. 31 ff. 686 i.e. 692 6 ff. Encuadernacion del siglo 19 discreta pero elegante en medio cuero lomo liso con hierros dorados y letreria levemente gastada. Muy bien conservado ejemplar leve restauración en la portada limpio y fresco con amplios márgenes.</p><p>Primera edición española siguiendo una de Lima de 1630. La esplendida portada grabada encabezada por el retrato en medallón de Solano flanqueado por dos figuras femeninas alegóricas de Europa y America es obra de Juan de Noort. La obra se encuentra también ilustrada por un grabado a plena pagina que contiene el retrato de Solano.</p><p>Francisco Solano 1549 – Lima 1610 fue un Fraile Franciscano Español viajero y misionero en América; en 1589 Felipe II pidió a los Franciscanos que enviaran misioneros a América del Sur Solano aprovecho la ocasión y viajo a Peru donde finalmente llego siguiendo un trayecto en el que casi perdió la vida en un naufragio. Luego de llegar a Peru viajo a Tucuman junto con otros Franciscanos atravesando los Andes por el valle de Jauja Ayacucho Cuzco para entrar en el Norte Argentino primero por Salta terminando en Córdoba del Tucumán. En la región permanecerá hasta 1595 misionando entre los aborÃgenes –aprendiendo sus lenguas- y recorriendo el Chaco Argentino Paraguayo el Rio de la Plata y el Uruguay. En 1726 fue canonizado por Benedicto XIII y es llamado el "Taumaturgo del Nuevo Mundo" por los prodigios y milagros atribuidos. En su camino se cruzo con algunas de la tribus mas feroces e indómitas convirtiéndolas al cristianismo.</p><p>Esta edición se encuentra extensamente añadida sobre la de Lima de 1630 por Fray Alonso de Mendieta.</p><p>Palau 61941 "150 pts. Vindel 1903".</p>
