CRAIG L. BROWN USMC
1960s FASCINATING ORIGINAL VIETNAM ERA DIARY AND JOURNAL HANDWRITTEN BY AN AUSTIN TEXAS MARINE MEDIC AND MAYHAPS MURDERER
AUSTIN TEXAS TX TO DA NANG SAIGON VIETNAM SE ASIA. Good. 1962. On offer is a fascinating manuscript relic of the Vietnam War and a young Marine medic who originally hailed from Austin Texas. Intriguingly the dates range from 1962 to 1999 when he added the names of some dead comrades but the main narrative seems to be from 1962 to 1967 with about 50 pages but a few are just comments or addresses. Identified by an old Post Office address tag that has been placed under a small plastic pocket Craig L. Brown also includes his name in his own hand a few pages later. The opposite page has is Detachment information. Mr. Brown appears to be a medic who writes of heroin killing young children and more. Much of the writing 'funky' meaning some what one would call stream of consciousness some descriptive content and maybe ravings when drugged or battle crazed. There are several dark poems and an overall ominous tone to the whole thing. There is mention of a little girl being killed and by the sounds of it perhaps something he did himself there is also the mention of him being outside the tripwire and having to turn his dog-tags into a guy that wasn't military. He mentions Choppers with no National ID's and their running lights taped over with AC tape. The front of the book displays his love for his home state of Texas with a rank cluster at the top and a leather piece shaped like the state of Texas. There is a Star pinned to that Lone Star a 72 and a Dove pin as well. This is certainly one of he most unique diaries we have handled. All of the pages seem to be present but some are loose.
