In July 1944 one year before she left Athens for New York Maria Kalogeropoulou would perform the role of Smaragda in the Manolis Kalomiris opera The Masterbuilder at the venue conducted by the composer himself and directed by Sokratis Karantinos; days later in August 1944 she would also play Leonora there in Beethoven's Fidelio conducted by Hans Hörner and directed by Oscar Wallek. A full thirteen years later in 1957 and having since conquered the world Maria Meneghini-Callas would return to the Odeon of Herodes Atticus to give an historic recital at the Athens Festival featuring arias from Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde Giuseppe Verdi's La forza del destino and Il trovatore Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor and Ambroise Thomas' Hamlet conducted by Antonino Votto. In 1957 Callas was invited by the Constantine Karamanlis government to appear in the third Athens Festival giving two recitals at the ancient open-air theater on the 1st and 5th of August. Daily newspapers owned by publisher Dimitris Lambrakis attacked the government using Callass steep at the time performance fee of $9000 for the two recitals. The Athens Summer Festival which had only recently been established badly needed tourism and naturally relied heavily on Callas concerts. The leaders of the opposition refused to be present at the premiere as a sign of their disapproval of Callas "scandalous" fee. Because of demonstrations her first scheduled performance was cancelled. However she kept her date with her second scheduled Athens performance on August 5th despite the continuing attacks against her from the opposition press during the intervening weekend. 1.5 JM FRT01. br. L'Autore ripercorre la biografia di Laurence Feininger, vissuto quasi ininterrottamente a Trento dal 1938 al 1976, anno della sua prematura morte. Laurence, secondogenito di Lyonel Feininger e Jilia Berg-Lilenfeld, crebbe a Berlino e Weimar. A differenza dei fratelli Andreas e Lux, orientati verso le discipline della fotografia, del design, della pittura, seguì un personale percorso musicale. Quando la Germania imboccò la deriva del nazionalsocialismo, Laurence fu scosso da rivolgimenti interiori che si tradussero in sfide radicali: la ricerca sull' "antico" in musica, la conversione e poi il sacerdozio, l'impresa di trascrizione e edizione delle fonti polifoniche del Quattrocento. Seguirono la scoperta della policoralità romana del Seicento, l'animazione di un coro che ne restituisse la bellezza e non ultimo la raccolta delle fonti "gregoriane" disperse all'indomani della riforma liturgica decretata dal Concilio Vaticano II. Un cammino di vita, quello di don Lorenzo, costantemente teso alla ricerca del sublime quale strumento per educare una nuova umanità.

brossura La produzione vocale di Muzio Clementi è una sezione del suo catalogo assai poco conosciuta e frequentata. La ricerca di Renato Calza colma questa lacuna affrontando per la prima volta lo studio sistematico delle più significative raccolte di Clementi: le Due Canzonette per canto e clavicembalo o pianoforte edite a Vienna nel 1792 e le due antologie pubblicate a Londra tra il 1813 e il 1817: la Selection from the Vocal Compositions of Mozart e la Selection from the Melodies of Different Nations. In questo volume le due antologie londinesi vengono contestualizzate all'interno del mondo musicale inglese e delle strategie editoriali di Clementi, che con esse celebra il nascente mito mozartiano e contribuisce al repertorio di canti nazionali, un genere coltivato in Inghilterra sin dal XVIII secolo.
