RARISSIMO. La prima data certa nella sua biografia è il 1753: in quell'anno egli si trova certamente a Londra ove partecipa agli intrighi ed alle discussioni che occupano e dividono gli italiani viventi all'ombra dell'"Opera House" o "King's Theatre". Badini, bene introdotto nell'alta società inglese, amico di John Wilkes, il letterato mondano più in voga nella città, riesce a rafforzare in maniera notevole la propria posizione di poeta ufficiale. Nel 1793 è in polemica, sempre per il posto di librettista, con Lorenzo da Ponte, come sempre, l'occasione dello scontro è fornita dalla pubblicazione d'un libro: Il Tributo del Core, una raccolta di poemi del da Ponte sulla morte di Luigi XVI. Tre mesi dopo la pubblicazione del suddetto libro, nello stesso anno 1793, il B. mette in circolazione una sconcia parodia sotto uno pseudonimo: Il Tributo della coglionatura dell'Abate Vittorio Nemesini, Accademico della Crusca e canonico di San Pietro. Dedicato a l'Autore del Tributo del Core, o sia al merito incredibile, non meno che impareggiabile dell'Abate Lorenzo da Ponte. L'attacco è personale, diretto: s'accusa il da Ponte di voler togliere, addirittura rubare, il posto di librettista dell'Opera a "uno che ha servito il Teatro venticinque anni continui, e che nei parti della sua penna si è distinto non solo tra i Poeti italiani, ma anche fra quelli dell’Inghilterra”. Da Ponte, che teneva al corrente Giacomo Casanova degli sviluppi della polemica, lo informava della situazione in una lettera del 10 maggio: Badini "è il primo birbante ch'esista sulla terra... Son dieci anni che non sorte di casa che le domeniche per i debiti; da che pubblicò la satira si nasconde affatto perché teme ch'io lo bastoni. Tutti mi dicono che potrei chiamarlo in giudizio... io non mi degno. Tutto questo ci fa per discreditarmi: e perché crede che mi possano alfine dar il posto di poeta". Le cose stavano a questo punto, allorché la direzione del King's Theatre passò a William Taylor, il quale confermò il Badini nel suo impiego di "poeta" del teatro. Da Ponte, per conseguenza, si vide costretto a trovare altrove lavoro trasferendosi ad Amsterdam, dove lo raggiunse, il 30 ott. 1793, una lettera del Taylor, il quale gli offriva il posto di librettista dell'Opera e uno stipendio annuo di 120 ghinee. Accettò senza esitazioni l'offerta e, tornato in Inghilterra, riuscì nel 1795 a far rappresentare la Scuola de' Maritati, rifacimento d'un lavoro composto alcuni anni prima. Il successo fu grande, confessò Da Ponte, "ad onta di... una satira sanguinosa del sempre infame Badini, che a suo dire fu pagato per farla". Questa satira è la Breve Notizia dell'Opera Buffa intitolata La Scuola de' Maritati o sia Delle Corna: scritta dal celebre Lorenzo Da Ponte, il quale dopo di essere stato Ebreo, Cristiano, Sacerdote, e Poeta in Italia e in Germania, si trova Secolare, Maritato, e Asino in Londra. Il libello fu pubblicato anonimo e portava falsamente come luogo d'edizione Lisbona. Fu invece stampato a Londra nel 1795. Il Da Ponte, forte dei recenti successi, questa volta volle rispondere all'impudente con alcune Piacevoli noterelle sopra il Turpe Libello intitolato Breve Notizia dell'Opera Buffa che ha per titolo La Scuola de' Maritati, composto dal sedicente Vittorio Nemesini, cioè da Carlo Francesco. Gli incontri e gli scontri tra i due continuarono ancora per qualche anno ("Il Badini... m'insidia sempre l'impiego") finché ai principi del 1800 lo stesso Da Ponte fu sostituito nell'impiego di poeta da un certo Bonaiuti.
