Dalle antiche tracce del periodo barocco al Novecento "liberato" di John Cage e Leonard Bernstein, passando per le tempeste romantiche e i turbamenti fin de siècle: una appassionante galleria di personaggi, squarci di vita e atmosfere che, senza cedere al gossip, offrono al lettore prospettive inedite sulla storia culturale dell'Occidente e, al musicofilo, strumenti nuovi per un'esperienza di ascolto più consapevole.
