An die Mezzosopranistin und Gesangspädagogin Mathilde Marchesi mit der Bitte einen Probentermin mit ihren Schülerinnen Emma Nevada und Blanche Arral zu verschieben: "Je viens vous prier de remettre à l'ante [!] Jeudi (21 Xbre) la visite de vos deux chères filles (Blanche et Nevada) vers la même heure, 4 h - j'ai, jeudi prochain, une grande séance à laquelle je ne puis manquer; c'est l'execution du Prix de la Ville au Châtelet [...]". - Nach Stationen als Pädagogin an den Konservatorien in Wien und Köln ließ sich Mathilde Marchesi 1881 in Paris nieder um ihre eigene Gesangsschule zu eröffnen. Ihre mit Abstand berühmteste Schülerin war die australische Sopranistin Nellie Melba (1861-1931). Emma Nevada (1859-1940), die den Komponisten Ambroise Thomas heiraten sollte, und Blanche Arral (1864-1945) begannen nach ihrer Ausbildung bei Mathilde Marchesi ebenfalls erfolreiche Karrieren. - Charles Gounod, der selbst ein begabter Amateursänger und langjähriger Chorleiter in Paris und London war, befreundete sich in seinem letzten Lebensjahrzehnt mit Mathilde Marchesi und ihrem Mann, dem Bariton und Pädagogen Salvatore. Wie aus dem Brief hervorgeht, arbeitete er auch mit den Gesangsschülerinnen der Marchesi. Als Pädagogin schätzte Mathilde Marchesi Gounods Vokalmusik, da diese keine Überforderungen der menschlichen Stimme forciere. In ihren Memoiren schreibt sie zum Tod des Freundes: "On the 15th of October, 1893, the musical world sustained an irreparable loss in the death of Charles Gounod, and I personally lost in him a devoted friend. I am very fond of his light, flowing melodies, for they appeal to the heart, and are admirably suited to the human voice" [Marchesi and Music, S. 288]. - Auf Briefpapier mit geprägtem Monogramm; gefaltet.

Gounod versichert seinem Freund, dass er die Sammlung noch nicht erhalten habe und ihn von ihrem Eintreffen umgehend in Kenntnis setzen werde: "Je t'affirme que, cette fois encore, pas plus que la première, je n'ai reçu la Collection des Chants Liturgiques Arméniens - Il est impossible qu'elle arrive chez moi et que je l'ignore - dès que je l'aurai, je te le dirai [...]". - Nach dem Ende seiner aktiven Bühnenkarriere betrieb Salvatore Marchesi gemeinsam mit seiner heute bekannteren Frau Mathilde ab 1881 eine Gesangsschule in Paris. br. Roberto Formignani si innamora da giovanissimo del blues, universo scoperto grazie ai dischi jazz del padre e a quelli rock del fratello maggiore. Compra la prima chitarra a dodici anni, passa i pomeriggi chino sullo strumento e cerca di riprodurre i suoni che escono dal giradischi posizionato accanto a lui, ma non c'è niente da fare: non riesce. "Dopo mesi e mesi di prove e strimpellamenti mi sembrava di non arrivare da nessuna parte, così lasciai perdere" racconta Formignani. Non è un addio, solo un arrivederci. Un paio d'anni più tardi si ributta a capofitto sulla sei corde e non smette più. Incontra l'armonicista Antonio D'Adamo, diventano inseparabili, e insieme fondano la Mannish Blues Band. Le prove in garage, i primi concertini nei locali fumosi di Ferrara e provincia e poi la chiamata a "Quelli della notte", programma cult di Renzo Arbore. Il gruppo inizia a girare parecchio, suona prima di B.B. King a Pistoia, sale su palchi importanti e conquista piazze prestigiose a livello nazionale. Nel corso del tempo le vite e i gruppi cambiano, la storia fa il suo corso, ma Roberto resta fedele al suo strumento. Per anni suona in giro per l'Italia con Dirk Hamilton e Andy J. Forest, incide dischi con i Bluesmen. Nel 2000 diventa presidente dell'Associazione Musicisti di Ferrara, ruolo che ricopre tuttora. Dalle prime jam session in un casolare sul Po al tour dei Liberation Project con Phil Manzanera, passando per trasferte improbabili, avventure e canzoni, Formignani ripercorre una vita vissuta a tempo di blues.

Folio. 16 Takte für Singstimme und Klavier aus seinem Lied "Blaues Auge". - Gustav Graben-Hoffmann war Gesangslehrer in Potsdam, wo er 1850 eine "Musikakademie für Damen" gründete, und nahm Kompositionsunterricht bei Moritz Hauptmann in Leipzig. Von 1858 bis 1868 unterrichtete er Gesang in Dresden, ging nach Schwerin und lebte von 1869 bis zu seinem Tod, mit einer kurzen Unterbrechung 1873 in Dresden, in Berlin. "1870 baute er dort eine 'Gesangsakademie für Damen' auf. Neben zahlreichen Liedern, deren bekanntestes '500 000 Teufel' ist, schrieb Graben-Hoffmann Duette, Chorlieder, Klavierstücke und einige pädagogische Werke (u. a. 'Die Pflege der Singstimme' und die 'Gründe von der Zerstörung und dem frühzeitigen Verlust derselben', 1865)" (DBE). - Etwas knittrig und fleckig.
