(pp. 158-159). Seules 3 bibliothèques posséderaient l'ouvrage : France (BnF), Allemagne (Berlin, Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung) et USA (Middlebury College Library). René Amédée Choppin (de Villy) ", ex-libris gravé armorié " d'azur au cerf ailé d'or passant sur un épieu d'or, issant de la pointe de l'écu " à la devise " MONSTRANT REGIBUS ASTRA VIAM ". René Amédée Choppin (1806-1886), Chef de service à la Banque de France, bibliophile. La famille Choppin d'Arnouville s'est distinguée dans la magistrature. Jean Choppin fut anobli en 1554. Son frère René Choppin, seigneur d'Arnouville, célèbre avocat au parlement de Paris, fut aussi anobli en 1578 pour avoir entre autres rédigé plusieurs ouvrages utiles à l'État (Domaine de la Couronne, Police ecclésiastique). Le prénom René s'est transmis régulièrement de génération en génération dans cette lignée. La branche de Villy descend de celle d'Arnouville.‎

Good. - Octavo 8-1/2 inches high by 5-7/8 inches wide. 24 programs bound together without the original wraps into three-quarter black morocco & marbled boards. The joints are split and the leather is heavily rubbed with the front cover nearly detached. The contents consist of 1508 consecutively numbered pages. A number of pictorial black-and-white ads are included; however the 14-16 pages of ads at the end of each program were not bound in. There is some soiling to the blank endpapers else the contents are clean and in very good condition. <p>Karl Muck was the music director until the end of March 1918. He was arrested around midnight on March 25. He was falsely accused of refusing to perform the Star Spangled Banner after the entry of the US into World War 1. He and his wife were imprisoned until August 21 1919 and were then deported. When Karl Muck was arrested as an "enemy alien" Ernst Schmidt became the temporary conductor for the remainder of the season. Ernst Schmidt was a first violin of the Boston Symphony for four seasons 1914-1918 and he was conductor of the Boston Pops in the 1915 summer Pops season. He was also an active composer.<p>This volume includes the programs for 24 concerts from October 12 1917 through May 4 1918 with historical and descriptive notes throughout by Philip Hale. The volume includes 19 pages of highly useful indexes and summaries at the end. Among the soloists featured in these concerts were pianists Ethel Leginska Frances Nash Guiomar Novaes and Ossip Gabrilowitsch. Singers included Mabel Garrison Nellie Melba and John McCormack. Violinists who performed as soloists included Irma Seydel Sylvain Noak Anton Witek and Efrem Zimbalist. There is some soiling to the blank endpapers else the contents are clean and in very good condition. <p>From the library of New York Times music editor William B. Chase with the shipping label from Symphony Hall laid in. Chase was the music editor for The New York Sun from 1896-1916 and for The New York Times from 1916-1935.<p>This volume includes the programs for 24 concerts from October 17 1910 through April 29 1911 with historical and descriptive notes throughout by Philip Hale. The volume includes 21 pages of highly useful indexes and summaries at the end. Max Fiedler was music director. Among the soloists featured in these concerts were pianists Carlo Buonamici Ferruccio Busoni Josef Hofmann and Xaver Scharwenka performing his own Piano Concerto No. 4 in F minor. Singers included Geraldine Farrar Jeanne Jomelli Louise Kirkby Lunn Nellie Melba Corinne Rider-Kelsey and Carolina White. Violinists who performed as soloists included Felix Berber Mischa Elman Francis Macmillen Sylvain Noack Kathleen Parlow and Anton Witek. Cellists included Alwin Schroeder and Heinrich Warnke. The season included a World Premiere by Arthur Mansfield Curry "Atala' conducted by the composer. Other composers conducting their own works were George Whitfield Chadwick and Henry Hadley.<p>On page 193 appears an ad for a "Private Piano Recital" featuring Paderewski Busoni and Josef Hofmann "Reproduced on the Welte-Mignon Autograph Piano". For voice and piano. Sarah J. Hale is best remembered for writing the children's rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb." But this song about a mother watching her child pass away in the middle of the night before succumbing to her own bleak fate isn't quite as cheerful. OCLC locates nine holdings of this 1847 edition.
