Number 518 out of 1000 copies, signed by Cale. The lid of the cardboard box with very light edge wear, otherwise mint condition. Richly illustrated throughout with photographs, reproductions of manuscripts, artworks, and memorabilia from Cale’s archives. Also included is a copy of the nornmal, unnumbered edition, dated 1999, in the original cardboard-binding with photographic paper-label to front and back board and printed spine. This copy is opened and with the same illustrated contents as the limited signed edition, which is unopened in its original plastic protection. Corners slightly bumped, otherwise a very nice and clean copy. 272 pp.‎

‎Signed, numbered edition - rarely found in the trade - of John Cale's autobiography, an artwork in itself. Cale was a founding member of the American rock band the Velvet Underground: ""arguably the most influential American rock band of our time"" (The New York Times, October 3, 2013). The book mixes text, poetry, and collage-like visual material in an experimental narrative reflecting Cale’s avantgarde style. It covers Cale’s early years in Wales, his work with La Monte Young and the Theatre of Eternal Music, his period with The Velvet Underground and his subsequent solo and production career with Nico, Patti Smith, Brian Eno, The Stooges, and others.‎

‎First appearance of a founding paper in musical theory and the physics of acoustics, in which the term ""acoustique"" is coined. The paper deals with the relations of the tones of the musical scale. It established the practice of music upon a science superior to it which Sauveur calls ""Acoustics"", the subject of which is sound in general. This is Sauveur's main paper on acoustics in which he states the first clear recognition of the composite nature of the vibration of strings.""Like Mersenne and others in the Seventeenth century, Sauveur used musical experience to obtain information on sound and vibration. According to Fontenelle, Sauveur was fascinated by music, even though he had no ear for it, and consulted frequently with musicians. Despite the musical foundation of his work, Sauveur proposed the development of a new subject, which he named ""acoustique"", dealing with sound in general rather than with the ""son agréable"" of music."" Ha!"" på 1. prøvetrykket af noderne til ""Bedæk med friske Krandse"", hvoraf det desuden fremgår, at den oprindelige titel var ""Trøsterig Vise for bedragne Ægtemænd.""Manuskriptet bærer en egenhændig dediktion til Karen Else (Seedorfs hustru, også kendt som ""Spindevinde""): ""Som Hans siger:/ Vor Moders Navn ved et Anker, boys,/ og saa Navnet paa hende, I veed!/ Din hengivne Ven/ Niels Clemmensen."" New end-papers and title-page re-enforced et edges, from verso, no loss of text. 2nd leaf and 2nd leaf of Register with small marginal restorations, no loss of text. Apart from the small restorations, an exceptionally well preserved copy. Title-page printed in red and black, and many woodcut musical notes throughout. Title-page + pp. (XIII) - (XXX) (i.e. lacking the first three leaves of the preface - ""Fortalen""), 653, (11) pp. (= register). - I.e. a lovely copy only lacking the first 6 leaves (ff. (A)1-6) of the preface.Withbound at the end are the 18 first text-pages of ""En Bøn at bede om Morgenen"" (presumably also by Thomissøn, ca. 1600) - these 9 leaves are not in particularly good condition.‎

‎Extremely scarce first 17th century-edition of the first authorized Danish hymn-book. This seminal collection of the scattered psalms of the Reformation, the very first of its kind in Denmark, was originally printed in 1569 and remained the authoritative hymn-book for Danmark and Norway for a century and a half, until Kingo's in 1699. All editions of the book are extremely scarce - the 16th century ones are known in 1-2 copies each, and most of them are incomplete" the 17th century-editions are also of the utmost scarcity, with ab. 5-7 copies known of each, and almost all being incomplete. Most copies known are in institutional holdings, and only very few remain on private hands. The present copy is one of the more complete copies known, as most copies lack several leaves of the text itself, musical notes, title-page, register etc. Thomissøn's hymn-book constitutes an invaluable source to Scandinavian musical life of the Reformation, and ab. 200 of the 269 hymns are put to music and supplied with musical scores.
