Ordway in Boston also in 1850 but the words are credited to Capt. Patten U.S.A. with music by Bernard Covert. This copy credited to Longfellow has a fourth verse not present in the Capt. Patten version. Stranger still we could not find these lyrics within any of Longfellow's writings. Outer bifolia notched and worn along the fold from once being bound within an album as a result the bifolia remain bound together owner name and date on the front cover partially cutoff suggesting the fore edge and possibly top edge have been trimmed to better fit the piece within an album and toning and light offsetting throughout just about very good. For voice and piano. Plate number 4983. The front cover states that this song is dedicated to Stephen C. Massett whom the website Maritime Heritage describes as "San Francisco's first entertainer."
