Very Good. Antoine Bemetzrieder en allemand : Anton Bemetzrieder est un compositeur théoricien et professeur de musique français né à Dauendorf le 26 mars 1739 et décédé à Londres en 1817. Il suit d'abord des études à Strasbourg et est diplômé en philosophie en 1760 et en droit en 1762. Il part s'installer à Paris en 1766 et entame l'étude de la musique qu'il enseigne bientôt. En particulier il fut engagé par Denis Diderot en 1769 pour enseigner le clavecin à sa fille. Son premier ouvrage les Leçons de clavecin et Principes d'harmonie rencontra un vif succès. Il y avait pu profiter de l'aide de Diderot qui donna sans doute sa forme de dialogue à ce traité pédagogique. Bemetzrieder publiera d'autres ouvrages pédagogiques jusqu'à son départ pour Londres en 1781. Il y enseigne encore la musique réédite ses œuvres et en écrit de nouvelles sur la musique les mathématiques la philosophie et l'éthique. He first studied in Strasbourg graduating with degrees in philosophy in 1760 and in law in 1762. He moved to Paris in 1766 and began studying music which he soon began teaching. In particular he was hired by Denis Diderot in 1769 to teach his daughter the harpsichord. His first work Harpsichord Lessons and Principles of Harmony was a great success. He benefited from the help of Diderot who undoubtedly gave this pedagogical treatise its dialogue-like form. Bemetzrieder published other pedagogical works until his departure for London in 1781. Libretto from the first American season of "The Queen of Sheba" whose opening performance was in Vienna in 1875 and which debuted in America at the Metropolitan Opera House in December 1885. The Boston Globe reported that at the opening night's performance in New York "everybody was there from Vanderbilt up including George Jones Whitelaw Reid Perry Belmont the Damrosch family . and many others" Dec. 3 1895.Rare. London: Final Solution 1981. First Edition. Founded by Colin Faver and Kevin Millins Final Solution was arguably the most important promoter in the UK during the postpunk years. With their impecable eye for talent Joy Division New Order Echo & the Bunnyman Throbbling Gristle et al and their instantly-recognizable flyers Final Solution produced many of the best shows in and around London especially for shows at London's legendary gay nightclub Heaven. And the flyers such as though included here were in no small part key to this success. With their distinctive and colorful designs these uncredited flyers both embody the aesthetics of the New Romantics which the "Heaven sound" helped define while retaining the lean aethetic of postpunk. Included here are five flyers for shows at Heaven Thompson Twins Flock of Seagulls among others as well as one for a show at Assembly Hall Bauhaus all from 1981. Six broadside flyers each printed recto only. Offset five in color one B&W. Three 8" x 5.5" approx. Remainder 11.5" x 8.5" approx. Uniformly near fine to fine overall. Final Solution unknown

Lucien-Romain Rebatet (15 novembre 1903, Moras-en-Valloire, Drôme-24 août 1972, id.) est un écrivain, journaliste et critique musical et cinématographique français. Ayant débuté à 'l'Action française', il rejoint ensuite 'Je suis partout' qui se réclame du fascisme ; en 1942, sous l'Occupation, il publie 'les Décombres', féroce pamphlet antisémite et collaborationniste. Condamné à mort à la Libération, puis gracié, il reste en prison jusqu'en 1952. Il abandonne alors la polémique, se consacrant à sa carrière d'écrivain en publiant son oeuvre majeure, 'les Deux Étendards', en 1951. Ce texte sur l'histoire de la musique reste une oeuvre d'écrivain plus que d'historien. Bon état.

Boston: Shepley & Wright Printers Congress Street 1835. Broadside 8.75 x 5.25 inches. Ample margins but unevenly trimmed along bottom edge. Otherwise light wear. Near fine. A nice example of a scarce broadside song sheet once attributed to William Apess a Pequot Methodist minister though it was in fact written by British Methodist emigre to Nova Scotia. This is the first separate printing of the song arranged in three five-stave musical notation followed by the lyrics printed in five six-line stanzas. The song itself is focused squarely on Native American religious conversion; the note just below the title reads: "Religion -- the pure religion of the BIBLE -- is the same in substance where it was received into the humble mind -- among untutored Indians as among the most civilized of our race. See in the following Hymn the 'inside heart' of a truly penitent Indian who had embraced the gospel with his whole soul." The tune became a standard in the Methodist Church in the ensuing years with early generations believing it was written by Apess because of its publication in the 1831 second edition of Apess's autobiography A Son of the Forest. It had actually been published first twenty years earlier in Cowdell's The Nova Scotia Minstrel. Despite its misunderstood origins the song itself lived on in Methodist hymnals and even in publications by the assimilationist Carlisle Indian School. Of additional interest to American printing historians the broadside is one of the few surviving products of the short-lived Boston printing firm of Shepley & Wright. North American Indian Folklore Music
New York: The American Indian League 1911. 8pp. Original printed wrappers stapled. Minor edge wear short closed edge tear some sunning to edges. Internally clean. Very good. A stated second edition of this rare work collecting eight Native American songs emanating from a variety of tribes. The lyrics have been translated into English from original songs from the Chippewa Omaha Arapaho Navajo and Ojibway. The work was prepared by Reverend William Brewster Humphrey who provides an introduction which opens "The discovery that the North American Indians had anything that could be classed as music is of very recent date hardly more than thirty years ago. Only within the last two or three years have these songs attracted public attention but now the demand for them is rapidly increasing. He provides additional background on the music and credits some notable musicologists for their work in collecting Native American songs. Humphrey also mentions that another pamphlet published by the American Indian League prints an address entitled Indians Use of Song which "tells the stories of the songs and with them makes an interesting one hour program." Some titles of the present songs include "Manitou Listens to Me" "Song of the Leader" "The Canoeist's Love Song" and "Death Song." Occasional light foxing and soiling throughout but generally clean. Nineteenth-century music publishers in Naples have not been as rigorously studied and documented as those in Milan despite the city's importance in the musical history of Italy. The largest and most important publishing firm was Girard later Stabilimento Musicale Partenopeo then Teodoro Cottrau. Founded by Giuseppe Girard in 1809 succeeded by his son Bernardo in 1826 the company did exceptionally well primarily due to their partnership with Gugliemo Cottrau. Girard had an exclusive contract with the three largest theatres in Naples giving them rights to the works premiered there. For Neapolitan opera during this time therefore the editions of Girard almost certainly predate those of Lucca or Ricordi and were the only editions for many lesser-known composers.<br /> <br /> The present collection also includes two scores published by Fabbricatore another important publisher in Naples that often worked in partnership with Ricordi. unknown

Ten Posters Advertising Nebraska Territory Bands 1930s–1960s
Nebraska and Minnesota: multiple publishers 1960. Ten posters mainly measuring approximately 14 x 21 ½ inches with some smaller. Many with slight damage and wear to edges all having been stored in tubes; bright and attractive; overall very good to excellent. Territory bands were dance bands that toured around particular regions of the US. Usually swing or big band jazz groups they mostly covered popular songs playing in smaller cities and towns that nationally touring groups would skip. Offered here is a collection of ten posters for territory bands from Nebraska dating from about the 1930s or 1940s to the 1960s. Unusually for territory bands these groups are mainly composed of white musicians and represent genres including rock ‘n’ roll and polka the latter of which was popular in Nebraska due to the state’s concentration of Czech and German immigrants.<br /> <br /> Bands in the collection include International Polka Association Hall of Fame inductee Ernie Kucera whose orchestra played from 1942 to 1995; fellow Czech polka player Adolph Urbanovsky’s Bohemian Orchestra; Don Shaw’s “Top 40†Dance Band and Entertainers which covered top 40 tracks in the 1950s; Little Joe and the Ramrods an early 1960s rock ‘n’ roll group; and the Lee Barron Orchestra. Paris, Imprimerie Charles Verneau, 1894. Dimensions : 60,5 x 79,5 cm (65 x 85 cm avec toile). Superbe affiche entoilée, imprimée en lithographie et en couleurs, représentant la muse de l'Ecriture assise sur un chapiteau corinthien sur un fond de soleil couchant. Un enfant nu tient à ses pieds un portrait de Gutenberg placé à côté de symboles des arts : une palette de peintre, une toile enroulée, une lyre, un livre et une sculpture représentant un lion. Timbre fiscal de la République Française. Eugène Ogé (1861-1936) débute comme apprenti chez l'imprimeur parisien spécialisé dans les affiches, Charles Verneau. Il devient ouvrier lithographe. Durant cette période, il croise des artistes comme Willette, Forain et Steinlen. Au milieu des années 1890, il ouvre son propre atelier et commence à dessiner des affiches d'abord sous contrat avec Verneau, puis avec l'imprimeur Vercasson. Inspiré par le style de Chéret, il compose des images avec des femmes opulentes. Il connaît alors un certain succès, se consacre entièrement à cet art et devient un affichiste important de la Belle Époque. Par la suite, son style évoluera peu à peu vers les scènes de genre, l'humour et la caricature. En 1902, il collabore à La Lanterne, produisant des caricatures anticléricales, puis il travaille avec d’importantes marques séduites par son sens de l'humour : Bouillon Maggi, Gellé frères, Bicyclette La Guêpe, Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville, Réglisse Zan, Bec Auer, Thé Lombart, Billards Brunswick, etc.
