‎TOMMY AND JIMMY: THE DORSEY YEARS. Introduction by Bing Crosby.‎

‎305p. Numerous photographs. Top edge dust spotted. Tall 8vo. Original full cloth binding. Original dust jacket, worn. "Herb Sanford unravels the Dorsey's complex relationship in a biography he is uniquely qualified to write. He got to know the Dorseys in 1925, soon became their good friend. This biography of the fabulous Dorseys is also something more. It is a portrait of a great era in American music and American life. Tommy and Jimmy came on the music scene just when the big bands were taking on a shape that would define the music of a whole generation. In an age of musical giants, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey commanded the peaks. They welded jazz and popular music, and gave distinction to both. In the twilight of the Big Band Era, the stars began to flicker. Glen Miller went first. Then the others: Artie Shaw, Paul Whiteman, Jimmie Lunceford, Claude Thornhill, Sammy Kaye, Glen Gray, Cab Calloway, Charlie Barnett, Eddy Duchin, Gene Krupa - some retired, some dead. Tommy and Jimmy held out longer than most. When they went, an era died with them." JAZZ 1 ** !‎
