Hollywood CA: January 31 and February 4 1963. 1963. Very good. - The first letter consists of 66 words typed on a sheet of Talent Associates-Paramount Ltd. letterhead 10-1/2 inches high by 7-1/4 inches wide. Dated "January 31 1963". Signed "David Susskind". The recipient has stamped the date received on the top right corner of the letterhead. The second letter comprises 21 words typed on the same letterhead. Dated "February 4 1963". Signed "David Susskind". The recipient has written a note in red pencil across the top edge & down the right side of the letterhead. The letterhead is lightly bumped. Folded twice for mailing. Very good. <p>Susskind is following up on a phone call to Clay Blair at the Saturday Evening Post in which he had proposed to write reviews for the magazine. Enclosing copies of his theatre reviews not present he writes: ".Please bear in mind that I think it would be far more interesting to incorporate reviews of important motion pictures as well as theatre because of their more widespread interest." The second letter is enclosing Susskind's review not present of William Inge's "Natural Affection". Blair has written on the letter: "Emerson -- Susskind wants to write a piece for us you interested CB".<p>Susskind was a pioneer TV talk show host as well as a noted producer of numerous movies plays and TV programs. His reputation was that of a producer of intelligent material at a time when TV had left its golden years behind and was aiming for popularity rather than quality. Very good. - A letter penned in dark blue ink filling a little more than one side of a sheet of Anne Jackson Wallach's blue 10-1/2 inch high by 7-1/4 inch wide personalized letterhead. There are a few light ink smudges to the letter with a small ink blot & red pencil notation at top right. Folded twice for mailing. Stapled to the letter is a carbon copy of a note about publishing part of the letter. Very good. <p>Anne Jackson Wallach and Eli Wallach were American film television and stage actors who often co- starred on and off Broadway. They were one of the best known acting couples in American theatre.<p>This is a splendidly impassioned letter addressed to Dick Ficks attacking a Saturday Evening Post article by James Atwater which hashed over at length the failure of "Has Anybody Here Seen Kelly" produced by Joseph E. Levine and David Susskind. The production ran one night and lost $650000. "What earthly good does it do to rehash mistakes and place blame Those of us who work in the theater know the odds when we sign contracts. Nobody sets out to fail. The most knowledgeable practitioners goof.Much more loot is invested in oil wells which are dry.trips to the moon which never come off.and wars which never pay off.why advertise the figures for a play which bombs"<p>The attached note is from a Post letters editor to LUV Press expressing her appreciation for the Wallachs giving permission to publish part of their letter. TWO-PAGE AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY MARY MARGARET MCBRIDE. Together with a picture postcard signed with her initials
West Shokan NY: August 1966. 1966. Very good. - A letter written in mid-August 1966 penned in blue ink and filling both sides of a sheet of her personal letterhead 7 inches high by 6 inches wide with her address & a vignette of her house printed at the top. Signed "Mary Margaret McBride". A notation by the recipient in the top right corner reads: "Rec-d 8/18/66 / 8/21 OK Thanks! HS". Folded once for mailing. Together with a stamped-addressed printed postcard picturing a view from McBride's house with a printed greeting below it & with an autograph note on the verso. The bottom left corner of the recto is creased. Very good. <p>A letter to Herbert Saltford owner of the Saltford Flower Shop in Poughkeepsie NY inviting him to be a guest on her radio program: "One of your great admirers a listener has told me about your knowledge and recent trips.I know you're on a Poughkeepsie station but would that make it impossible for you to be my guest.Our mutual listener would be so happy and I would be the same since I'm an ambitious gardener and ardent bird lover." Saltford has noted on the letter that he agreed to the taping and her postcard confirms the date: "Please send me scripts or artlcles if you have any about trips birds & gardens whatever. Just for background."<p>Mary Margaret McBride was an American radio interview host and writer. Her popular radio shows spanned more than forty years. Later in life she appeared in smaller radio media markets and at the time of this letter hosted "Your Hudson Valley Neighbor" three times a week on WGHQ Kingston from the living room of her home as she tells Saltford in the letter. McBride has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. West Shokan, NY: August 1966. unknown
