Probably the most comprehensive early work on selenium cells, covering the early history, physical and electrical properties and applications like light telephony and television, with extensive bibliographical notes at the end of each chapter. George P Barnard was of the Electrical Department at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, England. Heavy book with extra P&P charges.

This is the original edition and not a modern reprint or reproduction. James Swinburne was a very experienced and highly respected electrical consulting engineer, his expertise ranging from power stations to wireless telegraphy. In 1902-1903 he was President of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE); in 1912 appointed by the British Government as member of the Technical Committee considering the Imperial Wireless Scheme.

He pioneered the electrical transmission of photographs, anticipating the facsimile machine.

226pp VG/none Second edition, published in the same year of the first. Original editorial red hardback, gilt lettering on spine, minimal wear on the cover, overall a very good copy. Important book on the subject, scarce in the early editions, with the Introductory Chapter by Dr Rudolf Diesel, profusely illustrated by diagrams, charts and b/w pictures, some in folding plates. Presumably the first book in English devoted to the subject: according to the author, in the Preface, "no book has been published dealing solely with this type of motor".

ca 1500pp VG/none First edition, separate pagination, about 1500pp. Original editorial red cloth with gilt lettering on spine, just light shelf-wear on the cover, company stamp on pastedowns and upper edge, no other stamps noted inside, paper mildly age-yellowed, otherwise in excellent conditions. Classic reference work on astronautics and space engineering of the 60s, a opus magnum on the subject, scarce in such good conditions. The Editorial Board was chaired by Wernher von Braun, the contributors were all top engineers and scientists from NASA, US Air Force and US aerospace companies.
