br. Occhialuto, emaciato, con difficoltà a relazionarsi con gli altri, se è un uomo. Se donna, anche racchia e un po' snob. È una caricatura del lettore abituale, certo, ma molto resistente. Un'immagine distorta dovuta al fatto che il "lettore forte", come l'Istat definisce chi legge almeno un libro al mese, è una persona che non fa parte della maggioranza degli italiani, è fuori dalla "norma". Il lettore italiano risponde al profilo medio di un giovane dei centri urbani, sotto i 34 anni, che gode di un certo benessere e fra gli obiettivi di vita ha il miglioramento professionale e culturale. La maggior parte è donna. Poi ci sono 20 milioni di italiani che non leggono libri e fra i non lettori assoluti (né di libri né di giornali) spiccano gli uomini adulti. Perché? Perché nella società italiana si sono affermati valori e stili di vita che evidentemente non riconoscono alla cultura, in particolare quella scritta, un ruolo di primo piano. Le iniziative di promozione del libro sono tante e diffuse sul territorio, basti pensare al Manifesto per la lettura nato nel 2008 grazie all'alleanza fra editori, librai, biblioteche e insegnanti. Ma ancora c'è molto da fare: da una maggiore attenzione al pubblico più giovane allo spostamento del target per la promozione dai cosiddetti lettori "forti" a quelli "medi", dal sostegno a scuole e biblioteche al ruolo delle librerie.

La sua attività prosegue sotto il governo pontificio insediatosi in seguito alla Devoluzione del 1598, descrivendo un lungo arco temporale ricco di stravolgimenti geopolitici. La sua intensa attività editoriale, iniziata negli anni '70 del XVI secolo e protrattasi fino al 1618, anno della morte, si connota per un'attenzione particolare al mercato locale e alle esigenze della corte. La produzione baldiniana guarda però anche alla Laguna, nell'intrecciarsi di rapporti familiari che coinvolgono l'abile editore Giovanni Battista Ciotti. Gli Annali qui proposti, corredati da un'ampia introduzione storico-biografica, tratteggiano l'itinerario editoriale di uno stampatore fortemente legato alla dimensione culturale ferrarese, abile intessitore di rapporti e relazioni politiche. L'opera intellettuale e artigianale di Vittorio Baldini, insieme alla sua vicenda personale, si propongono quindi come paradigmatiche di un passaggio epocale per la Ferrara di fine Cinquecento, descrivendo un interessante panorama bibliografico in un centro italiano minore ma di grande respiro culturale.

The Sovereigns sought members among all workingmen not just farmers. Its purpose articulated by its founder William H. The cooperative network would allow workers to "control the whole of what they produce and exchange it as near as may be even with other hand-workers thus saving to themselves the fortunes which those who are devoted to manipulating other people's labour and to getting rich thereby have heretofore taken by extortion."
