ILLUSTRATED INVITATION ON RICE PAPER FOR A NEW YORK EXHIBITION OF ORIGINAL ART WORK BY THE JAPANESE ILLUSTRATOR KUROSAKI YOSHISUKE.
1969. 1969. Fine. - Invitation printed on the 1st & 4th sides of a sheet of rice paper folded to form 4 sides each 9-5/8 inches high by 7-3/8 inches wide. The text is printed over brightly colored images suggestive of a children's tale--a bird a horse a tiger. The artist's signature and that of the author introducing his work to America are printed in English and Japanese at the foot of their texts. The corners are very lightly creased. Near fine. <p>An invitation from the artist to attend a "Personal Art Exhibition of Yoshisuke Kurosaki" in New York City from June 12-26 1969 at The Mad Monk. "In Japan there are many fancy and interesting tales for children from ancient-time. My works are based on these tales which are very popular in Japan. The drawing technique is traditional Japanese style." On the fourth side of the folded rice paper is a testimonial from M. .: "Art has no nationality and I have great expectation that Kurosaki can be introduced to the American public who I believe will also be touched and carried away by the beauty of his works." Both sides are backgrounded by wonderfully childlike color images that suggest their folk-tale origin. A snarling tiger on the rear whose ferocity is tempered by his gorgeous coloring is particularly striking.</p><p>Kurosaki Yoshisuke 1905-1984 enrolled in the Kawabata Art School in 1925. In 1934 he joined the New Nippon Doga group an organization to promote innovation in children's painting. He released works for several magazines including Kodomo-no-Kuni and Kinder Book. In 1961 he participated in establishing the second Japan Doga Artist Association with Takei Takeo and other painters. His masterpieces include Momotaro The Peach Boy and Shita-kiri Suzume The Tongue-Cut Sparrow which are based on Japanese folk stories.</p> 1969.

The original six volumes contain selected graded stories and poems arranged to challenge the child as the child progresses in wisdom age and grace the set was split from 6 volumes to 12 in 1928 1932 1935. The TRAVELSHIP volumes on Japan Holland and France were issued from 1925-1927. In this set of MY BOOKHOUSE all six volumes are of the 15th printing as marked on the title-page.
