[Jean-Frédéric Blumenbach, médecin et naturaliste, né à Gotha en 1752, mort à Goettingue en 1840. Avant Cuvier, il comprit que la zoologie doit avoir l'anatomie comparée pour base. Il s'occupa surtout de l'histoire des races humaines, et réunit une importante collection de cranes. En comparant tous les caractères que peut fournir la forme des tetes osseuses, Blumenbach établit cinq races humaines: la caucasique ou blanche, la mongolique ou jaune, l'éthiopique ou noire, l'américaine ou rouge, et la malaise.]

Blumenbach (1752-1840) "is [today] chiefly remembered for his work 'On the Native Varieties of the Human Race', now considered as the foundation of the science of physical anthropology - the study of the origin and evolution of the races of men [...]. Blumenbach was able to develop the thesis that all living races are varieties of a single species, homo sapiens, and that their differences were small compared with those between man and the nearest animal; 'innumerable varieties of mankind run into each other by insensible degrees'. It is not surprising therefore that Blumenbach was opposed to the practice of slavery and the then current belief in the inherent savagery of the coloured races" (PMM). "Blumenbach was the founder of anthropology. In this, his dissertation, he classified mankind into four races, based on selected combinations of head shape, skin colour and hair form. br. Dietro a ogni farmaco al quale ricorriamo ci sono malati che in precedenza hanno accettato il rischio di sperimentare una novità sulla propria pelle con lo scopo di sconfiggere la malattia. Ma la sperimentazione continua a essere motivo di discussione. C'è chi cerca di frenarne gli abusi, chi di accrescerne le opportunità, chi di trarne sempre maggiori profitti. La ricerca dovrebbe essere un terreno immacolato, mentre spesso è stata inquinata da bugie e truffe legate agli interessi economici dell'industria farmaceutica. Eppure sinora non abbiamo trovato niente di meglio degli studi clinici per testare l'efficacia di un nuovo farmaco. E senza farmaci le malattie non avrebbero una risposta.
