Il medico e chimico ligure Gerolamo Cuneo (1865-1942) è stato un pioniere degli studi sulle "malattie del ricambio" - dette oggi "malattie metaboliche" -, che includevano, oltre alla gotta, il diabete e la leucemia, ma anche l'epilessia e le malattie mentali. In particolare, le ricerche condotte da Cuneo sull'origine intestinale delle crisi epilettiche fornirono una base scientifica agli osteopati americani degli anni Venti (che intuirono tale correlazione, senza però comprenderne le ragioni) e le più recenti acquisizioni sul microbiota intestinale e sull'asse microbiota-intestino-cervello, che hanno significativamente aperto la strada a nuove strategie terapeutiche, confermano la straordinaria attualità del pensiero di Cuneo. Trois tampons de bibliothèque sur la page de titre de chacun des volumes et tampon en pied du frontispice photographique puis repris sur chacune des sept planches et en pied de chaque dernière page.
