In a very good condition, fine interior. ~ Second English ("American") edition, translated from the fourth German edition and edited by John Roosa. Comprising of 31 Lectures. Anton Friedrich von Tröltsch (1829-1890), pioneer of otology. Professor of Otology at Würzburg, where renowned otologists Friedrich Bezold (1842-1908) and Abraham Kuhn (1838-1900) were his students. He invented the modern otoscope and devised the first modern mastoid operation which was first performed in England in 1868 by Hinton. Tröltsch was a co-founder of the Archiv für Ohrenheilkunde. In his Translator's Preface, Roosa considers this edition a "new work". The translation has been liberal in part - Roosa has added material of his own and in several cases expressed his own, different opinions. He took care, however, to enclose his material within parentheses indicated by his initials. In 1873 Roosa has published his own version of "Practical Treatise on the Diseases of the Ear, including the Anatomy of the Organ". Extremely rare, so much so in the original binding with the title "Tröltsch on the Ear".

He was among the most distinguished of Billroth's pupils and contributed much to cancer surgery. He was the first to use the electric oesophagoscope (see "Ueber Gastroskopie und Oesophagoskopie" 1881), and the first to make a plastic reconstruction of the oesophagus after the resection of its cervical portion for carcinoma. His "Die Krankheiten des Mundes" was so authoritative that it took 11 years for a second edition to be needed.

He was an assistant Physician and Surgeon for Ear Diseases at the London Homeopathic Hospital and a member of the British Homeopathic Society [MBHS]. Oblong crown quarto 23x29 cm. Decorative wall inspirational poster printed in black within decorative orange border with black motif. Comprising of 8 stanzas with 4 lines each. Mounted as issued on thick cardboard, beveled edges covered with patterned gold paper, secured hanging hook at back. In a very good condition. ~ Rare original inspirational artifact as spiritual support for the deaf. Written in the form of a long poem, it was printed in Holland by the American Acousticon and Dictograph Company. The text, rather optimistic and lighthearted, attempts to show the positive in every misfortune: "Bear thus, Oh Deaf, your cross so light / When on this world you roam / As you won't need to carry it / Hereafter, in God's home!" The composer of this poem is Victor Ernst Ketjen (1879-1941). An illustrious personality, this American-Dutch former sea captain was in 1923 co-founder of Acousticon in the Netherlands. Extremely uncommon, no reference could be found in any data base.
