Bum was the town dog of San Diego in the 1890's. Hitchcock and Engman were sisters who were moved to San Diego from Chicago in the 1940's. When the authors discovered the story of Bum in 1950 they were established as the Padre Puppeteers who did puppet shows for children all ove rhte city. Encouraged to write a play about the dog Bum they did so and this book is the result of that play. An unusual book but an important part of San Diego history.
