An old man with a bad heart who is not good at paying his bill is Andy's first boarder but his Quarter Horse stallion Blue Smoke is worth it. When he dies with the promise that Blue Smoke is hers she is thrilled to own the horse but concerned because she is not really sure of his true ownership. Green hardcover cloth binding with yellow spine is cocked bumped and a little wear at corners but clean and tight interior 244 pages. DJ has wrinkles large piece missing bottom of spine some closed tears but protected from further damage in clean Brodart jacket. Horse loving girl crippled by polio is initially uninspired by her family's move to an Arizona ranch. Overcoming her fears she tries riding a horse again and discovers a wild buckskin mare trapped in a canyon. She is determined to tame and ride the mare and it is low slow process. To everyone else but Judy her gaudy pinto with his loud spots seemed clownish as compared to the state's finest Saddlebreds. Even after a famous trainer agrees he might have a chance to win the Grand Championship neither Judy's sister or the horse show judges seem to able to see past his coloring. Back flap describes the previous title to this one - Silver Birch. 276 pages. Followed by Golden Sovereign. Copyright page has year of 1941 with a small number '2' indicating 2nd printing.
