Kamalakar is Post-graduate in Political Science. He also holds a Master's degree in Law, Bachelor in Education, Doctoral Program from the Department of Political Science, Osmania University Hyderabad. He was awarded Ph.D on the topic “WTO and GATS in the Indian Higher Education: Emerging Challenges. He has written three books, edited three books and has done six Book Reviews to his credit. In a country where nearly ninety percent of the population was still illiterate, Village Institutes were established though the leadership of General Director of Primary Education Ismail Hakki Tonguc on 17 April 1940 with the objective of upholding the principles of the Republic and educating a new kind of citizen. By training the children recruited from villages and sending them back to their local communities, the Institutes targeted the education of a large segment of the population. Slowing down by 1946 due to interior and exterior pressures, the movement ended once the Village Institutes were closed down in 1954. Focused on the Village Institutes as one of the most dramatic processes of evolution in the history of the Turkish Republic and organized by the collaborative efforts of Istanbul Research Institute and Ismail Hakki Tonguç Document Archives, the exhibition entitled, Mindful Seed, Speaking Soil: Village Institutes of the Republic 1940-1954 sheds light to a momentous period in Turkish history through archive documents, photographs, personal objects and witness accounts.

The Galata Sarayi, registered in Istanbul's records from the end of the 15th century onwards as a palace school; is the city¿s only non-religious institution that has survived unchanged until the present day. Beginning with its founding myth based on the meeting of Bayezid II and Gul Baba, the building complex bore the very same name, and in time lent it to the neighbourhood evolving around it as well. The Galata Sarayi complex, which is used to train qualified personnel to the Ottoman Palace and Army throughout its history, became a pioneering military school; offering elementary-grade, and medical education. It hosted innovative developments such as a French curriculum and Western standards in education after the mid-19th century. The Mekteb-i Sultani (Lycee Imperial Ottoman da Galata Serai), took shape as a professional European middle-school; through the close relations between Abdulaziz and the French Emperor Napoleon III, in a series of efforts formulated by Ali Pasha and Fuad Pasha, two influential Ottoman statesmen of the time. One of the first secular institutions, offering equal rights of education to the diverse peoples of the Ottoman Empire, Galatasaray saw considerable interest after opening and formed a new tradition of education after its first class graduated in 1871. In the last 150 years; as the Mekteb-i Sultani in the final Ottoman years and as the Galatasaray High School from 1923 onwards despite varying successes - the school became a symbolic institution and an elite identity for its students and alumni alike. Designed to share the inspiring memory of this public institution; the exhibit thus presents glimpses from the school¿s efforts, since 1868, to train skilled, qualified individuals. Edited by curator Izzeddin Calislar the exhibition catalogue consists articles that give a unique insight to Galatasaray High School by Emel Engin, Fethi Isfendiyaroglu, Seza Sinanlar Uslu, Gulsun Guvenli Vahdettin Engin, Koksal Bayraktar, Yildizhan Yayla, Tarkan Okcuoglu, Melih Sabanoglu and Izzeddin Calislar.

Gender in Contemporary Education Research [Hardcover]
ABOUT THE BOOK:- This book, describing key ways in which contemporary education research has framed the questions of gender equality in and through education, is aimed at scholars interested in research on education and gender and related issues. Mainly drawing articles published earlier in the Journal of Educational Planning and Administration of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration and a few articles authored by faculty members of NIEPA, it attempts at giving an idea on trends and varied perspectives on education of women, influence of culture and opportunity on education development, equity, impact of women's education on various facets of development. While each piece stands on its own, taken together this collection offers a coherent overview of what has been examined, and remains to be examined, in this field. Building on what is known, it is hoped that scholars would identify research on gender and education, that would advance our understanding of the ways in which education could lead to substantive equality in the society. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Ratna M. Sudarshan was formerly National Fellow at the National University of Educational Planning and Administration (2013-15). She is a Trustee and former Director of the Institute of Social Studies Trust, New Delhi; and has been on the research staff of the National Council of Applied Economic Research. She has been a consultant to the ILO, World Bank, WIEGO, SEWA Bharat, and other national and international organisations, and is associated in an advisory capacity with Uttarakhand Environmental Education Centre, Almora; Federation for Education and Development, Jaipur; Sandhan, Jaipur, and other organisations. She has researched extensively on aspects of gender and development. Her publications have mainly been on the linkages between gender, education and work, with focus on the informal economy; research, action and policy linkage; gender and evaluation. She received a DSE Distinguished Alumni Award from the Delhi School of Economics in February 2017. Jandhyala B.G. Tilak, Former Professor and Vice-chancellor, National University of Educational Planning and Administration, is Distinguished Professor at the Council for Social Development. He taught in the University of Delhi, the Indian Institute of Education, and as a Visiting Professor, at Centre for International Cooperation in Education, Hiroshima University, Virginia University, and Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. Prof Tilak was also on the research staff of the World Bank. Prof. Tilak has been felicitated with many awards and honours such as the prestigious Swami Pranavananda Saraswati National Award of the UGC in Education for his outstanding scholarly research (1999), Dr. Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for distinguished research contributions to development studies (2003), Inspirational Teacher of the Year Global Education Award 2012, and Devang Mehta Award for outstanding contributions to education (2015). Among many other honours, he also had the privilege of delivering a keynote address to a meeting of the Nobel laureates in Barcelona in 2005. Prof Tilak has authored and edited over a dozen books and about 300 papers in the area of economics of education and development studies. Former President of the Comparative Education Society of India, Dr Tilak served as the Editor of Journal of Educational Planning and Administration for 27 years and is on the editorial board of several professional journals.
